I watched many films in my life.
I could not wait till my eldest turned 4 years old and we could go to the cinema together. In those days it was not permitted to take children younger as 4 years into it.
It was nothing special we watched. A film for children and probably at that time the newest cartoon made by Walt Disney.
Times have changed.
Television is broadcasting 24/24 these days all kind of films and soaps, misery, etc. There are no longer times where is broadcasted for little children only who went to bed at 7pm.
We have movie channels, there is internet and Netflix. You can watch whenever you like what you like.
My children always watched what I watched.
Thriller and horror is part of it and if they were not interested they left. I never put any restriction on the computer or films they watched. Personally I do not see the need of it and I have strong doubts about tv and film ratings.
If it comes to films I noticed that not each country has the same rule.
What Dutch children are "allowed" to watch at the age of 7 in other countries children need to be 12 or even 14 years old.
Dutch children are for sure not more violent, aggressive as children and adults in many other countries.
Do you follow the age suggestions given?
Do you believe watching a film sets up people to follow that example?

@ili0braz I never did. Generally speaking I do not consider cartoons as low quality. Looney tunes, WE coyote, the classic Disney films, Warner Bross, Dreamworks, Trapito, all great cartoons same with Inuyasha, Dexter's laboratory, etc. I guess you need to study it and look with a certain I. My children are all book and film lovers and very artistic. Result of how they are raised? Happy day. 💕

@bxlphabet You do not watch movies either? I watch them at home at times the connection is good via Netflix or old ones I have on video tape or DVD.
No, I stopped all the mainstream media many years ago. I have no time or interest. Even when I had access, I did not watch much.

This days childrens do know and do things,that parents can't even imagine...I was a teen in the 80's,on a Jehovah's Witness house...we had no radio,no TV,while I had it,but I hat to do it on hide....
I made a radio out of just a simple cassette player,and so onnn...
@abbak7 I doubt if children have changed. "It is not real" is what I always said. No matter if it is a commercial, cartoon, game or horror.
It is easy to blame a game or film or a barbie doll but I think it is a lack of raising and self esteem that makes people do.stupid things.
One daughter played Wolfenstein as a littke kid, she did not grew up as a violent adult. Is a great gamer too.

You see? Turns out I become a bad kid, while I had no bad influence...never seen a violent movie, videogames didn't even existed..
@abbak7 I grew up without radio, friends and some television or was sent to bed at 5 pm. No matter what I did I was meant to be bad from day one I was born. I gave up on that and did a bad thing (good for me) and left. 😁

I study to work in Hollywood, these film ratings make the jobs of filmmakers harder. The parent should be responsible for ensuring that they decide what films are acceptable for their children.
