Art Explained by A Writer - Pollice Verso (Thumbs Down)

in Venezolanos Steem2 months ago (edited)

It promised to be a beautiful day. The weather was good and so was his mood. Every ticket was sold, clothes washed, sandals and armour polished. Instead of a bullfight like in the land of the Spanish, this fight was fair. Just man to man and no one hiding behind a wall. It may be tough, but at least they weren't animal torturers.

The stadium was packed to the brim.

Everyone had come appropriate dressed just as had been requested. Even the cell phone had stayed at home as had been indicated on the site where the online tickets had been ordered. For those who had dared to take them along their property had been confiscated.

The Premier dressed as a cesarean sat at the front in full view. Occasionally he looked disturbed to his left at two loudmouths because he couldn't figure out if she was a man and he a woman.

The fighter who had enlisted didn't look particularly attractive, but when the soldiers were let loose and rushed at the failed bullfighter, they were robbed of their lives within minutes.

What the hell, yelled a spectator, a two-hour show was promised. What kind of entertainment is this! That guy is a scam I want my 200 euros back!

Confused, he looked up at the spectators' bench. What were they all shouting and gesticulating? It had promised to be a beautiful day, the sun was shining and he had won.

What's the problem?

Should I finish him cut off his head or not, he screamed to the wild crowd as his foot stood on the neck of the last survivor.

Dirty crook!
Douchebag!
Get lost!

What was it they were throwing? Red roses or... Tomatoes!

One thumb after another pointed down. It was clear they were voting. The man under his sandal gasped. He slapped the ground with his hand, the sign of surrender, but the only result was blood spatting around. A sea of people moved. They booed, roared, and gestured as he raised the sword in his hand.

Sorry mate, he said to the powerless soldier, this is a democratic decision.

Get lost!
Get rid of the scammer!

More thumbs down, the crowd jumped from the stands and ran onto the field. It looked like a stampeding herd of buffalo.

They mean you friend, the soldier gurgled.

The fighter didn't reply he had disappeared from the scene as the crowd arrived.

It is entertainment to them but, a torture to my heart. More like one man's meat being another's poison. May we not be in positions where our pity have to be sacrificed just to be able to breath more. Lovely demonstration of the spartan time

There seems to be camouflage in the show Is this real or just a scenario?

The painting is real from 1872.
I think situations like these happened during the Roman Empire although that empire was long gone in 1872 and I doubt thumb down meant back then what it means today.

The contest Art & Writing is hosted by @solperez. Weekly she provides in 3 paintings. I used this one to write about. The idea is to be creative.

What I wrote about is what I see, think that's going on. As you can see I used the tags #story and #creativewriting

Wow such an interesting story my friend but don't you think the fighter was lucky? As he escaped before the arrival of crowd. And can you guess what will happen to him if he was caught by the crowd? Anyway thanks a lot for sharing with us I really enjoyed reading it.😄

He didn't escape but was trampled by the crowd or ripped apart.

Amiga! Gusto saludarte...

Feliz tarde 🤗

Puedes escribir lo que quieras o pienses. También puedes coger otro cuadro. Hay tres para elegir.
