Easter Twister

in #esteem7 years ago (edited)

This year is the "chill Easter" time, which means that in the end of this period I'll be full of the 0 fucks I'll be giving these 2-3 days.

Yeah, it's Easter over here on the Orthodox side of the world and the more years I have under the hood, the less I care about it. Good thing that they give these free days with it or otherwise It would pass right around me. Maybe the hungry, demonic crowds lurking in the supermarkets would piss me off a little, but otherwise, I rather love seeing the nature come back to life than to celebrate Easter.

Up in the mountains, close to 1000 meters altitude, the small vacation started well: sun shining and birds chirping. The temperature was just right enough in order to spend these days in the middle of the nature itself. And so we did...

Just the three of us. Sometimes it's easier and more peaceful, though you may miss some friends. Not all because not all weigh so much in your life right?

So we spent a lot of time in the middle of nature. I took the opportunity and shot a lot of photos, things that I was aiming to try and photograph for a long time but didn't really get the chance. It didn't come in easy to have some nice pictures of the nature, getting greener and greener as each day passed by. That's because in the area where we were, a few months ago, a wind managed to break lots of trees. Now, the "eagles of wood", the lumberjack, are exploiting everywhere the fallen trees.

So goodbye openness with nice view to the top of the mountains as everywhere you looked, you were seeing barren logs, denied of their crown, dropped anywhere it came in handy.

I went for details this time, what could I do?

Apart from the fact that I had to go around the morbid looks of the fallen trees, I also had to take into account the dirt humans leave where they camp. Or is it only Romanians that do this? I don't think so. Unfortunately, there is no stretch of land, no matter in what wilderness you would go, that you will not have trouble finding empty PETs or some wrapping of some waffle. Sickening.

I think it was one of the few Easters that I did without any friends. Just family. And to top it all I think it was the only Easter in which it was just the three of us.
Every single day of this vacation I was hearing on TV the usual news about people having too much to eat and ambulances had to intervene. Yes, it is like that. Some of our fellow men are using every opportunity they have in order to practically poison themselves with food. Christmas and Easter make no difference.

I like the hypocrisy of the "good Christians" fasting before Easter evening. Some of them come back after the 00:00 moment, in the dead of the night, bringing home the candle with the Holy Light in it, only to throw everything away and start eating the meat goodies they have prepared for days now.

I, on the other hand, can't stand lamb meat. Call me an infidel, I don't care. I really can't deal with the smell and to be frank, the more I grow older, the closer I am to vegetarianism (about which I am now thinking pretty serious). All around our house there were parties and bbq's. Big ones, not like the one we've made once in 5 days containing 90% poultry. No sir!

This was the heavy stuff: lamb, beef, sausages. Only the brave survive this kind of evening, containing so much fat that your stomach has to process directly after the fasting phase. Clever.

Everytime I was hearing loud music coming around from people partying I would be like that meme with the guy watching his monitor screen and only rising from his chair in order to pull the curtains on the window bringing too much light in his room because of all the commotion outside. I took comfort in the forest and the places that these termites didn't infest, just yet, because it's still too cold for their damn asses.

To be sincere I had just come from this dude party we had in the Danube Delta, opening the season (of which I'll post soon) in which there was too much alcohol and music involved.

I had to take my medicine...

This is very relatable. I don't do the whole Easter thing either and I can't stand how phony people are about these things. I went out that night (because it was a lovely night really and it s pretty safe with so many people out and about) and I was astonished at the number of people hurrying out 5-10 mins before midnight, just in time to get some holy light, then head back home in 10 mins to stuff themselves. It's gross.

P.S.: Lamb is also gross ;)

:) Lamb is gross only if u try and eat it. As an animal, it’s really cute, I’m sure u relate ;))
I don’t consider Easter night “safe” if speaking about roaming the streets. You can get assaulted by babushkas that had their candle blown : “Psssst, băiatu’! N-ai lumină și pentru mine?!”

:))) See, that's why I didn't actually get any light - I knew the dangers 😎

Everything seems hopeless and I'm a pessimist, but I feel the need for little optimism. One reason for optimism is that I'm old and maybe I do not have much ... but our kids?
