Köşkün yapımı

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, ilk kez 1927'de geldiği Yalova'da önceleri satın aldığı Baltacı Çiftliği'ndeki çadırda kalıyordu. Mustafa Kemal kenti çok sevdiğinden dolayı sık sık ziyaret ederdi. Daha sonraki ziyaretlerinden birinde dikkatini Yalova iskelesi yakınındaki büyük bir çınar ağacı çekti.

Bugün dört asırlık olan Çınarın görüntüsünden etkilenen Atatürk çınarın gölgesinde bir süre dinlendi ve ulu çınarın civarına bir köşk yapılması emrini verdi.

21 Ağustos 1929 tarihinde inşasına başlanan köşk 22 gün sonra 12 Eylül'de tamamlandı.

Köşkün kaydırılması

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 1930 yazında bir gün köşke gittiğinde, orada çalışanlar, yandaki çınar ağacının dalının köşkün çatısına vurduğunu, çatı ve duvara zarar verdiğini söyleyerek, çınarın köşke doğru uzanan dalını kesmek için izin istediler. Atatürk ise, çınar ağacının dalının kesilmesi yerine, binanın biraz ileriye alınmasını istedi.

Çalışmalara temel kazarak başlandı ve temel seviyesine inildi. İstanbul’dan getirilen tramvay rayları, binanın temeline yerleştirildi. Uzun uğraşlar sonunda bina, temelin altına sokulan raylar üzerine oturtuldu. 8 Ağustos 1930 günü öğleden sonra yürütme çalışması başladı.

Köşkün yürütülme işlemi iki aşamada yapıldı. 8 Ağustos günü, öncelikle yapının teras bölümü, geri kalan iki gün içinde de, ana binanın raylar üzerinde yürütülmesi işlemi tamamlandı ve bina, 5 metre kadar doğuya kaydırıldı. Böylelikle köşk yıkılmaktan, çınar ağacı kesilmekten kurtuldu. Ayrıca köşk o günden sonra Yürüyen Köşk olarak anılmaya başlandı.

Köşkün kaydırılması Mustafa Kemal'in çevre bilincine verdiği önemi göstermesi açısından önemli bir olaydır. Bu olay hem köşkün hem de Yalova'nın bilinirliğini arttırdı.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, bu olaydan sonra da pek çok kez geldiği Yalova'da bu köşkte ve çınar ağacının altında dinlendi. Ölümünden sonra sahip olduğu tüm taşınmazlar gibi köşkü de Türk milletine bağışladı.

Atatürk'ün ölümünden sonra köşkün ünü azaldı. Uzun süre sahipsiz kalan köşk 2006 yılında Yalova Belediyesi bakıma alındı ve onarılarak müze olarak açıldı. Yürüyen Köşk bu olaydan sonra yeniden eski ününe kavuştu.

Construction of the Villa

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stayed in the tent in Baltaci Farm where he first bought it in Yalova, which he first came to in 1927. Mustafa Kemal frequently visited the city because he liked it very much. One of his later visits, he had an attention on an old plane tree.

Ataturk influenced by sight of the plane tree which is four hundred years old today. He got rest in shade of the plane tree for a while and gave an order to build a villa near the great plane tree. The Villa, which was built on August 21, 1929, was completed on September 12 after 22 days.

Moving the Villa

When Mustafa Kemal Ataturk went to the mansion one day in the summer of 1930, the workers demanded permission to cut the branch of the plane tree. Because the branch of plane tree was too big and it could harm roof of the villa. Atatürk wanted to take the building a bit further ahead, rather than cutting off the tree of the plane tree.

The work began by digging the foundation and descended to the basic level. The tramway that was brought from Istanbul was placed at the base of the building. At the end of long struggle, the building was seated on the rails that were inserted under the foundation. After the 8th of August, 1930, after lunch, the execution started.

The execution of the villa was carried out in two stages. On August 8, the first part of the building was completed, and in the remaining two days, the main building was completed on the rails and the building was moved about 5 meters to the east. Thus, the villa survived the demolition of the plane tree. In addition, the villa began to be referred to as the Moving Villa after that day.

The moving of the villa is an important factor in showing Mustafa Kemal's environmental consciousness. This event has enhanced both the mansion and the awareness of Yalova.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk rested in this villa and plane tree under Yalova, where he came many times after this event. Like all the immovables he had after his death, the Villa also donated to the Turkish nation.

After Ataturk's death, The Villa's fame was reduced. The Villa, which has been left without a long time, was taken to Yalova Municipality in 2006 and repaired and opened as a museum. The Moving Villa has once again recovered its old reputation.
