Even though I'm not a huge fan of bots - as they are often abused - I dig these kind of initiatives.
A lot of filmmakers' careers have started out with a failed project. My class project at film school fell apart and never got made, hardly even started. It's really, really, really discouraging when it happens, but you're right, you need to get back up and start again.
This story sounds interesting. Maybe you'll still make it someday. :) But yeah, I know that we move on in our lives and going back to old projects isn't always the best way. There's always a part of me that feels like going back and remaking my student film the way I actually wanted to make it, before I had to chop it down to about 20% of what I had planned. But at this point it doesn't make sense to put my efforts in that direction when I have other ideas that I could be working on.
Speaking of which, I need to get back to filmmaking soon. :) I haven't made a film in more than half a year, so I'm itching to get back to it.
Even though this wasn't my first project I definitely get what you mean. Talking about discouragement, you're right, it's the people who - after falling down - keep getting up, again and again - and don't get discouraged, who get the farthest in life.
I don't see myself making this in the future. It was a learning experience. A project that wasn't meant to be made. The perfectionist in us tells us to go back to old stuff, but that usually isn't the best idea. So let's move on, learn from our past experiences and try and do things differently in the future.
If you feel the itch, perhaps it's indeed a sign to get active again on the filmmaking front.
I'm freaking the absolute hell out of thinking about trying to find voice actors down the line, so much so I'm actually almost considering going back to doing a comic, or maybe a motion book. This won't happen because I want to animate it that much. Anyway I'm really glad you're sharing your experiences with us, the tips are helpful and it gives some idea of the kind of stuff to look out for, and also that while it's depressing it's still okay if things don't quite work out, and you can do better next time :)

Aahhhhh on the one hand I'm glad and it does help my motivation a lot and on the other hand I feel like I'm going to crumble under pressure as I'm scared of not living up to expectations XD
Finding location is painful. Then finding location on a budget is even worst. The hardest for the JUJU was the convenient store we asked everywhere and no owners agreed for us to film in their shop (and I was offering money). For film it will always be difficult to achieve a feature on a budget I think you have to put yourself in a no turning back kind of situation. For example we booked a casting before we totally completed the script so we knew it would need to be completed really fast. I am confident that whatever the project you choose to do next you will achieve it if you stay focus on the goal! peace bro

there's always two hands but focus on the one that motivates you and ignore the other one ;>)
