Training Bassie

in #photography7 years ago

Tonight we went out to the forest to train Bassie (our dog). It was fun because it was all new to him (the surrounding) and he couldn't hold his attention to us a lot :)

When he does something good we give him a little treat. we have never done this with our other dogs but at the trainingfacility were we train it is common, so we go with the flow.

we trained in the middle of the woods around Vorden. Around Castle Hackfort of which I wrote in my earliers post. In the gardens of the castle there are a lot of fruit-trees.

The castle itself.

My son trained a lot of exercises with Bassie. One was that he had to stay put until we called him. And to be honest, he holded it very well.

we had some company of some coll cows who were watching us practice :)

Although I have no knowledge of cows, these babies looked pretty awesome :)

Afterwards Bassie was exhausted, he was tired of all the impressions and the training itself.
We enjoyed the walk a lot. Tend to do that much more often, there is so much to see around..

Have a great evening,

Peter

I wish we had done a better job training our dog when we first got her. She is still pretty wild and thank goodness we have a fenced yard. She would take off for sure if we didn't. Getting her to come is a whole other story. She thinks it is a game and runs away. I am afraid one day I will trade her right into traffic!

Isn't it possible to still train her? As far as I know you always can teach and train a dog not matter the age. It does take longer time when the dog is already used to a certain patern but perhaps worth while trying? With Bassie we are putting in a great effort, but we have had some bad experience with on of our former dogs, so we are more then willing to put in the time and energy. And the great thing is that is really great to work with the little fellow....he is full of energy and teenager-behaviour :) Love it...

We took her to a professional trainer one time. This lady had a whole facility out in the woods for training dogs and stuff like that. She gave up on her and said she couldn't be trained.

Oh really? I am sorry to hear that. But isn't there room for a second opinion or something like that? Our first labrador was really a pain in the but... Demolished for thousands of euro's at our home. He was neglected by his first owners, we thought he wasn't 'repairable' untill we found a trainer who trained in somewhat radical way. But for that dog it did help, he needed a other way of training then most dogs... but luky for us and for him, that worked really well. I was convinced the dog had a problem which wasn't us but a heritage from it's first months in his life... I wouldn't let him down as his first owners had done. The training was intense, for two months every single evening training at the dog-school... But after that he was really the most sweetest dog we ever had....

She is good for the most part. She just gets a little crazy when she sees other people. She gets all the love she needs and she is getting close to 10 or 11 now. I think she went through some major trauma before she found her way to our house. She is fantastic around kids, she just wants lots of love.

Ah ok, then things are good arent they :) most important is that she is loved and taken care of...and thats very much the case with you and your wife :)

he had a lot of fun. He was exhausted when we came home, slept for almost the entire evening :) ... We had a lot of fun in the woods, and I think Bassie had the most fun :)

Well its good you all had fun, and yes you know he had a lot of fun if he slept all evening
