Open Letter to Proxy.Token
For those that are voting for proxy.token, and believe they are undertaking a Machiavellian political power play, I would like to point out that the folks that are fighting for a decentralized blockchain against Tron will not forget this event. Neither will Sun in his quest to subject Steem to Tron's rule.
I do not presume to understand your motives, beliefs, or goals, but there are presently two policies competing for primacy and control of Steem. Tron, intent on centralization and order, and the Steem community, intent on decentralization and freedom. I have seen nothing from Tron I find admirable or desirable. Power and subjugation holds no attraction for me. YMMV. I have seen a lot from the Steem community I find less than optimal, but I have also seen incredible selflessness, altruism, and sacrifice for the good of society. Smells like messy freedom to me; like home.
I believe that Steem will eventually prevail over Sun in this contest. I believe that will happen with or without your participation. I believe when that happens though, if you have not committed to Steem, you will join Tron in the eyes of the Steem community. I do not say this of my personal opinion of you, or recommend it.
I think that's what people will feel is appropriate due to your abusive manipulation of their exigent need. I recommend you consider how you would consider a party that has played your role in this event were you the Steem community.
Here are the options:
A) Tron wins. Once Tron wins, your utility to Tron is no longer critical, and you have seen how durable and useful are Sun's promises and dedication to his 'friends'. At best - if you support him in this effort without reservation - you and the community you represent will be the least preyed upon by Sun's avarice. That's really the best you can expect from Sun. If you remain in your bipartisan position and he wins anyway, I think he will treat you like a traitor for your support of Steem community witnesses against him.
B) Steem wins. The antipathy of the Steem community towards you the and the folks backing you that have undertaken to profit at the existential danger to Steem will have been well earned - unless you take their side before they win. It is doubtful that Steem will make pretense of tolerance or empathy towards you if you don't. Again, consider how you'd feel in their shoes. If you do take Steem's side, I reckon you will have earned their gratitude and fractious company and will be considered fully equal to them capable of it. Some of them will still be assholes to you, because they're assholes.
C) No one wins, and the stalemate goes on for the foreseeable future. You will not prevail, because your ransom cannot be paid. Neither Tron nor Steem will have any affection, respect, or admiration for you, and you will be a thorn in everyone's side.
There seems to be no option D.
Personally, I think you are fairly strongly aligned with the decentralized ethos of Steem, or you wouldn't be here. I reckon you've misled yourselves into thinking you're smart enough to extract benefits for yourselves from the extant situation, but have neglected how you, were you in the Steem community's position (or Tron's), would view yourself in the aftermath of this endeavor. No one can presently pay your ransom, and the best you could extract is a promise - from a party that will resent being extorted. If you're familiar with the phrase 'damned with faint praise' you can extrapolate from that to what you will earn with your blackmail.
I recommend you consider what your interests and desires are regarding society and make that move. Once you decide on centralized governance or decentralized freedom, make your move without making it contingent on the demands behind your powerplay. Doing so, even now, will render your prior lapse in judgment less relevant than that forthright act. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one grateful for your decisive support will neglect that fact at that time.
In the event you seek decentralization, freedom, and prosperity by your own efforts, the Steem community will remember your support in their desperate hour with gratitude. In the event you seek centralization, subjugation, and order, Sun will probably do the best someone like him can to use your subservience going forward, and you should expect such rewards as he deems suitable for folks that render him service. Whatever you want, that's what you should seek without delay, because that's the only way you'll get it. I am confident any promise you extract via extortion will backfire, because blackmail is deeply resented, and folks will seek to pay you back for it somehow.
TBQH, the only way you can lose, whatever kind of society you seek to build, is by continuing to stymie both sides, earning the antipathy of both contestants.
You do you. I just recommend you figger out who 'you' is, and act to support the side that best represents you. Time's running out for you to rectify your fault to either side in this conflict.
You probably don't know me, or respect my person. That's ok by me. I'm just a guy that speaks his mind and needs free speech to do it. Who I am doesn't matter. My words and what they mean to you is the only value I offer you. I believe Steem may be the last chance folks today have to implement a society capable of free speech.
We all see the dystopian surveillance and totalitarian police state burgeoning in China, exponentially accelerating in the wake of horrific pandemic today. I expect you also have noticed the same, if less direct, censorship, propaganda and imposition of despotic governance in the West. What I know of Korea is that it has been plagued with cultish elites rankly twisting society there whichever way the winds of power blow, your people parasitized with psyops, your nation faltering on the precipice of utopia from the malice of your leaders - just like America, but in Korean terms. What I have read in the last decade indicates the masculinity of your men is criminalized, and the femininity of your women weaponized.
I hope to God I am wrong, but that is my perception.
Were I Korean, I'd be extremely eager to rectify that political situation, as I am America's plight, but I have no idea how you view it. I strive to learn from my friend @silvergriffin007, but our cultures are vastly different, and the premises I consider fundamental to society aren't the same as yours. For me, humanity is a sacred altar on which individuality prophetically prays a future of freedom and prosperity into being for our posterity's sake. I can see no better good, no higher purpose in life than that personal fulfillment of our children and their posterity. We verge on delivering the stars themselves to our sons and daughters, and absolute freedom to enjoy them in.
Steem isn't controlled by China, Korea, or the West. It is a non-geographically delineated society of folks that are here of their own volition and intent on self-governance - something that has never been before on Earth - and I believe we are the beginning of the end for centralization and despots parasitizing humanity.
I hope you find humanity holy, as I do, for the sake of your sons and daughters. I hope they prosper in joy as a result of your decision. I think the day has come for you to decide if they are to be granted the boon of your wisdom, or the curse of your foolishness.

a simple man shakes head in disbelief at these words : )
Surely you know about Korea well. Koreans suffer from incompetent and capricious ruling classes. So, there are some Koreans who believe that it is better for the US to dominate Korea.
No slavery is better than freedom, no matter the wisdom and benevolence of the overlord or the desperation of your liberty.
You are right However, there are Koreans who see the children of Korean ruling classes gain US citizenship and believe that American domination is better.
The reality of Korean ruling class becoming royalty and aristocracy and gaining US citizenship gives Koreans frustration and despair.
First of all, there are Korean radicals who say they want to be American rather than becoming China's tributary.
Rather than being a Chinese emperor's serf, he insists on becoming a citizen of an American president.
Some people cannot imagine being dependent on themselves, and must serve somebody.
Koreans who see Korea's ruling class gain US citizenship distrust the Korean government and rather make them believe in America.
The Jews distrusted them because the royal house of Herod was a Roman citizen who was an Idumae.
The reality of modern Korea is similar to that of ancient Israel in the royal house of Herod.
American government is no less corrupt than Korean government. Belief in masters is a feature of slaves. Free people believe in themselves.
I'm not taking sides here, but your dissertation have one big flaw.
Steemis not decentralized.
As @edicted points out, there is a continuum of liberty upon which Steem operates. Heretofore our speech has been relatively censorship resistant, and our community availed some control over who we are represented by.
I agree that in practice it has always been no more than an illusion of sovereignty. That illusion however has been preferable to the utter and total possession of Steem by Tron, and I therefore advocate adoption of our former state rather than our current plight, as those are the only choices available at present.
With more options, I would make different recommendations.
Steem has the ability to evolve past witnesses completely imo.
I agree, and think MIRA was a step in that direction>>>towards a completely distributed network. We're not there yet, but Musk isn't on Mars yet either.
compared to what? decentralization is a spectrum. an oligarchy is a decentralized version of rule by tyrant... oh wait that's exactly what's happening here. Replace oligarchy with republic, because voting.
Steem wasn't decentralized even before Justin and it won't be if he leaves. We know who appoints top witnesses. One or two big accounts. At least as far I know. Small fish voting is just smoke and mirrors.
Name one person that definitively deserves to be a witness because they bring so much value to the network, but they can't because the system is corrupt. There isn't one. Steem doesn't have any heroes, yet.
Also, what did I just say? Decentralization is a spectrum. It's an opinion. You could literally use various mental gymnastics to say that any centralized thing is actually decentralized and vice versa.
@r0nd0n.
No one is carrying this blockchain.
I'm sure @r0nd0n is great though.
I've seen him around.
You asked, I answered. The kid has heart.
Thanks for the encouragement, I do what I can.
