What Is Kekistan? Co-Creator of Kek Meme Speaks Out... (This Meme Is A Little Out Of Hand!)

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

This is a great video by Jeff Holiday, one of the self professed co-creators of the entire 'Kekistan' meme phenomena. He explains that Kekistan was/is a fictional nation/race and a meme that was intended to point out that 'Identity Politics is Absurd', but was hijacked and weaponised for political gain during the US election and beyond.

He makes clear that Kekistan is not about 'white power', 'nazism' or other such groups and is, in truth, the exact opposite - in that the idea was intended to poke satirical fun at the entire idea of identity politics.
Despite the original intentions, the idea of Kekistan became used by the identity politicians and mind controllers of the world in some predictable ways and some totally unpredictable ways!

As a lesson in how 'politicians' manipulate us through every meme necessary (sorry for that), this is a great video and if nothing else it reminds us that sarcasm doesn't travel well online

Ah, I remember a story about a student. It was a liberal-leaning teacher shaming the guy in front of the other students. The teacher wanted to blame him for something absurd but the guy said that's normal in his country.

The teacher asked about his country and then the guy replied: "I'm from Kekistan". Also behaved as if he is surprised because the teacher hasn't heard about the country. Eventually, he got a free pass and an apology from the teacher.

Sounded Middle-Eastern, free pass. Identity politics is getting out of hand... :D

What's next, a man says "I'm a woman." and he can go into toilets/changing rooms/bathrooms for women? Oh, wait.

I think the absurdism is the root cause of the problem there. absurdity has just as much of a right to exist as any other form of thought. :)

Yup, it has the right for sure. But the problem starts when the absurd becomes normal. If a big % of a country's population think that the absurd is totally normal, then the normal will slowly become the new absurd. :D It's odd though to read these stories and see this mentality. Like the sexist air conditioner, or the scientist guy who was bashed for wearing a shirt with some drawn women on it, "all men are evil" or that border control laws are xenophobic, etc. etc.... :D It's quite unbelievable, to be honest(and I guess it is unbelievable too for lots and lots of people in those countries). It emerges in my country too but most of the population here is far from that thinking. It's like diving into a new world. I was like "no way they are serious" for a while but yeah, they are.

Absurdity is somewhat subjective and what may appear absurd in one moment might not appear absurd once all the details are filled in. Equally though, yes, there are many claims made that are absurd to me, based on what I know and feel - but I don't assume that I know everything and it is quite possible that I have missed something important that would cause me to think again.

If we end judgement and denial then pretty much all these issues end immediately, but a lot of people are heavily invested in judgement and the results of their thoughts and actions that have arisen as a result of their judgements and associated denials. No judgements also means no bashing and generally also more understanding and balance.

As someone who grew up watching 'monty python', I appreciate absurdity's value in life though - providing it's a very prim and proper form of absurdity.. none of that cheap, imported absurdity :)

To tell the truth, this is a really complex issue and really difficult(for me for sure) to come to a "yup, this is how we should fix it" conclusion because of all the different variables. I believe that most emotions and behaviours are in us for a reason.

The wrong is always in the extremes. i.e. Extreme tolerance vs extreme intolerance. Both are foolish. I don't think judgement in itself is a bad thing. It depends on so many things.

  1. These people judge those people.
  2. Alright, let's find out why.
  3. List of logical explanations.
  4. Then we can evaluate if that judgement stands on solid grounds or 100% bs.
  5. Conclusion. (If it stands on solid grounds? Then let's figure out how to fix it. But that doesn't really happen, people are too busy attacking each other.)

What I don't like is the "jumping to conclusions way too soon" phenomenon. Without even thinking something trough... "He/she must be [racist, bigot, xenophobe, xyxyphobe, etc.]." 1 and then 5 instantly. The reasons don't matter. Point 2, 3 and 4 are nowhere. Legit problems are swept under the rug every day because of this.

Probably my favourite scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail:

The Pontius Pilate scene in the Life of Brian is also great. :D

yes, it is a complex topic. behaviours have causes, but that does not mean that they are all necessary or beneficial. emotions are responsive and they are all responding to something and need to be understood.

judgements are thoughtforms which are rigid and which always deny something, so in logical terms they represent the inclusion of error. there is no way around that, despite what favourable judgements have said about judgement itself!

judgements need to be understood, yes, but that does not mean they are valuable.
almost no-one has had experience of being completely free of judgements and so we typically don't have understanding yet of the depth of problems that they are causing us. i have learned from experience that it is massively better to just remain open to the awareness that we don't know everything, rather than being triggered into attempting to fill in the gaps for convenience or some other reason.

what is extreme to one may not be extreme to another and in some situations it is only through choosing the extreme that we might survive at all. the key is to know what is needed and to choose it. some people consider it extreme to only eat fruits and vegetables but many more know that doing so extends their life and improves their health.

I wonder what he thinks of the Youtube guys. I feel like they follow his theme that identity politics is completely absurd.. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes not so much

smh .......... One of the issues with White supremacy is if we examine it from a Historical Perspective a HUGE aspect of it is Dishonesty. Lying is a war tactic and a strategy. Lies are basically what white people used to take over America; and when lying 'alone' doesn't do the trick, they applied force - and then simply Lied about who was the hero, and who was the villain.

So I could care less what anyone says about what "Kek" really means; We all know what it means. We see who aligns themselves with the Flag; we see how they have used the flag, and represented the flag.

Sure to a white person, these are just jokes - as white people are not the Target of these Violent hate filled militias of Loser Trolls who frankly cannot fight man to man in the street; and Need Weapons; or Police to back them up, as we saw in the Charlotesville as Several of them ran like Cowards when challenged.

Several said "Its just a joke man, just a joke"....

But there are people alive in this country who's Ancestors were Actually Raped, Beat up, Murdered, Hung, Tortured, Terrorized, and nothing is Funny about this shit at all to those people.

So folks who wanna fly that Flag have EVERY right To do so. They just better Understand the Consequences of what they are doing. As that is the way of this world. You don't get to Go to "Blood Hood" in all blue, throwing up Crip Signs and say "I'm just Joking" when Bloods roll up to Smoke you and end your life; You wanna Claim that Kek Gang? Go for it......... There are consequences to the Choices people make.

So I could care less what anyone says about what "Kek" really means; We all know what it means. We see who aligns themselves with the Flag; we see how they have used the flag, and represented the flag.

The examples at the end of the video show that many people disagree with you on the meaning here.

I actually saw the meme in it's early days and was totally confused when I saw it being attached to white supremacists, since it originally had absolutely nothing to do with that at all. When you say "we all known what it means" - what are you basing your understanding of the meaning on?
You could say "we all know what it means" when faced with the schwastika symbol - except that Hitler and the German Nazis actually stole that from Asian groups and it is a very old symbol indeed. How unfortunate for Peaceful Buddhists to be told they are 'bad' because they use a symbol because a heartless dictator stole it a long way away and in a way that they had no control over.

Sure to a white person, these are just jokes -

You are judging here - not only are you putting all light skinned people in a box that credits all of them with no capacity for free thought, but you are also rigidly attaching the Kek idea to meaningless humor - whereas, in truth, it was a method of attempting to help liberate the minds of people who are trapped in their heartless ideologies. In other words, you are attempting to force your own ideology onto people who are attempting to stop such things occurring - all while claiming they are the bad guys.

I don't really know what to say since I have pink skin and will possibly just be conveniently dumped into the box of 'white person who is dumb' - even though I remember a past life where I had dark skin in a tribe. :/

That's the other side of "white supremacy" and it's Historical war Tactics which are no longer a 'mystery' --- They like to use "numbers" -- Numbers does not make you or any of them "Right" however. SO yes; a 'minority' will be "outnumbered" in a debate like this; especially when there are, unfortunately, so many white people who just Refuse to "Do right" and speak out against these Divisive, Hateful Ideas that have done nothing but cause harm to humanity for centuries.

It does not matter 'how many people agree' when it comes to a topic like this. The "Majority" approved of Slavery in this nation 'based on race' - and helped create a system that harms, terrorizes, and oppresses black life; because the folks who Thought that kind of Barbaric Evil b.s. wasn't Okay were "outnumbered" ....

that being said; Since you 'began' your comment off by telling me about 'how many people don't agree' -- I didn't bother to read the rest of what you had to say.

A person who does not Understand the difference between 'Right and wrong' - who uses "numbers of misguided thinkers" as their base for a conversation, do not actually 'deserve' a conversation. Even if they 'want' to have one - because it's just a waste of time. It's a bunch of nonsensical b.s. supporting the idea that it's okay for these Hate Groups TO Exist, and they're Just a Joke, but not a 'real threat' - WHILE white people continue to harm non-white people with "impunity" (which means they face no punishment) - while keeping nonsensical arguments going (additional war tactics; known as Distractions) ----

So who cares what you and others think If you support this kind of hateful Inhumane Thinking; I support the people who want to Punch you all in the mouth; as you do not believe others have a Right to life; so perhaps it's you who does not deserve a right to yours (since that is the stance you take).

Wow. I thought this had burned itself out already. It was funny for a while, but it's gotten pretty stale.
