Rocky Mountain Hikes - Alpine Rockbound Lake - part 1 📷

in #photography7 years ago

This hike, I explored the 5km loop around Rockbound Lake, a beautiful alpine lake in Banff National Park.

Around the lake are some really scenic areas. This far end of the lake has a couple caves that look back out to the lake, and it

The hiking trail comes up past the end of the rock wall at the left distant end. The lake had an awesome turquoise color in the sunshine.

Some sweet rocks drop right down to the water's edge and it looks like a pretty steep lake, since the sides all have quite steep drop offs around it.

Some huge bounders leave over hangs and caverns in the fallen rock

The yellow colored Larch forests on the other side of the lake, where you hike in from.

Some great panoramas around the lake, especially with these huge walls all around the lake.

This is a great panorama that I really love, the sunlight was perfect out in the water, where you can see some scattered boulders laying deep in the waters.

The above panorama was shot from this really awesome massive boulder. With a short 2m lcimb up the bottom of it, you have a pretty great vantage point to shoot from. One of my hiking buddies took a couple of me out on here.

The clouds were moving around making quite a difference in what you could see in the bottom of the lake or not. The shadows turn dark really quick which was surprising to see from this cool vantage point.

Time to get off this rock and navigate our way through this massive boulder field back to the starting shorelines.

Here is an example of just one of the many great caving slots and crevases below all of these boulders. With the dry summer, the lake water is lower than usual, and leaving quick a few sandy bottom caves that would normally be underwater. I certainly didn't expect to do any caving on this hike, but I'll never complain when I get that chance!

So, I hope that leaves a good impression of this awesome hiking area, as I know for certain that I'll be back. I may snowshoe in this winter to see the area with 5 feet of snow, I'm sure it will look completely different!

Wow stunning pictures and an amazing place to hike indeed.

I have done my fair share of hiking in the mountains and I miss it.

Thanks for the flash back to the past!

I never knew Rockbound Lake was this pretty!
This is going on my "to do" hiking list

Ya I had no idea either @Daveks, it definitely beat all my expectations. Especially if you plan to trec around the whole lake, its a great day hike! I hope to check it out this winter by snowshow and see how that compares. Might have to bring my skiis as well and cruise all the way out!

Superb captures you catch on from magic of the nature. These all are seem cool, relax and calm looking. Nice place to stay Yoga meditation. Thank you for sharing @unipsycho.

Oh!!! my goodness, Awesome and amazing photography in this lake, i have never seen and never knew. I can`t say anything if so amazing.
Have a wonderful day @unipsycho

Man that looks like a great area. Beautiful blue lake, big badass cliffs, and snow dusted mountain peaks!! I have really gotta get to Banff national park someday!

ah ya, banff, yoho national, the kootenays, jasper national park, waterton, even tons of kananaskis country we are spoiled here on the edge of alberta/bc for beautiful country that is for sure!

No words can really describe what it feels like to be in the mountains - pictures never do the real thing justice. You captured the beauty very well. I love the key hole from the rock or cave you were in, looking out towards the Larch forests. You made me claustrophobic though in the last shot.! :)

Thanks @countrygirl to say I captured it well, as I certainly know what you mean by it never quite being justice for the real thing. Certainly glad to try my best and have my own fond memories through all these pics as well!

Have you ever put a book of your photos together? You know the kind that you can have printed? It would be such a wonderful storybook to share with your kids or grandkids one day. You certainly have had many beautiful adventures.

Not a book, but many movies and actually the walls in my house have quite a collection of beautiful prints on them. I should do some photo books, I have many of them but not from hikes, just vacation trips.

@unipsycho,
Photography #2! I feel you were at heaven! That's amazing! Actually you make me crazy again and again! Oh poor me! Thanks for sharing such wonderful photography with us!

Cheers~

haha, not poor you, lucky you for enjoying some photos and having your own hiking memories to reflect on. I hope you can get out there for some of your own adventures again sometime!

Thanks @resteemia, appreciate the resteem and support!

This pictures make me want to go to BANFF National Park even more. What a beautiful place on earth. Is it possible and allowed to climb there? The rockfaces look simply stunning!

oh ya, tons of great climbing areas in and around banff. Not sure about these wall at this lake, as it would all be traditional (which I don't do) but there were some 1000ft chimneys I sure wanted to go check out. The rockies here have a fair bit of slab and flacky stone so not known for the safest trad work though, but some great sport routes and walls around and nearby banff park. I'm still exploring the crags.

I envy you. :-) Enjoy the explorations!
