The package <A PowerHouseCreatives Contest>

in #powerhousecreatives5 years ago (edited)

Your doorbell rang and you hurriedly opened the door. A parcel was set right in front of your doorstep sent by yours truly, YOU from the future. What is in that parcel?

I opened the door and picked up the package. I looked over the package. It was plain wrapped in brown paper. It had a standard address label on it. I did not see a return address. It was just a simple package. It looked a little worn not sure if it was from age or from shipping. I turned the package over again to look to see how it was addressed. It was addressed to me. Simple first and last name with my current address. The writing looked familiar, but I didn't think anything of it.

I sat down to open the package, I found another simply wrapped box with an envelope on top addressed to myself. This time the writing was very clearly mine. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Then thought, it's official "I have really lost my mind.'

I set down the package and just spent time looking at it. 'Why would I send myself a package and how could I not remember?' Sure I could just open the envelope and read it, but that is just too simple. Questions kept popping into my mind like 'Why does it look like it has been kept for a while?' 'Why does it make me feel uneasy?' Obviously, there is only one way to find out, READ the letter.

I opened the letter. I turned it over in my hands, trying to decide if I really wanted to know what it said. The whole thing is a bit creepy. It was normal paper. Something you find in any printer. It was a couple of pages. So I had to wonder if it really was from me. My letters to myself tend to be lengthy. (Yes, I actually write letters to myself.) As I said this was only a few pages. At this point, no loss or no gain so I decided to see when I wrote this,

Hi Me, well my past me 😊
Don't freak out, but yes this is one of the the letters you write to yourself. However, this was was written on your 70th birthday. Before you overthink all of this, just read the letter. Yes there are some major technology changes in the near future. Think about what I have to tell you before you make any rash decisions.
I know life has been tough. While our life has not been what we wanted we still had wonderful kids, A wonderful husband. Isn't that all we really wanted?
Anyway, what if I had a couple of things that would take away a lot of the pain that we lived with? What if I could give you a gift to make the changes you felt you should have made. Correct the decisions you felt were very detrimental on you and the kids? Would you take this opportunity? What if you could just make small tweaks to remove the loss, the pain and the hurt for so many? Knowing how your think, I think I know the answer. Think on this for a few days. The package isn't going away. It's not going to spontaneously combust like a communique from Mission Impossible.
If you make changes, mind you I will never know. You however, will. Depending on the actions you take. You may lose things dear to you, you may gain new ones, no one can say for sure.
A little information to let you know what happens between then and now, This is not mean to sway you in anyway, it's just basic information. If you do nothing, nothing will change. You life will continue on the path you are on. There will be nothing extraordinary to the remainder of your life. You are right, you will eek out an existence never being fully satisfied or fully happy. I don't want this to disappoint you, maybe my little nudge to have you make some small changes to enjoy what time you do have left.
No you're not dead, well I'm not dead, As far as I know, we have quite a few years left.
Don't ask how this opportunity came about. Don't tell anyone. Even if you were to tell them, any change would affect them and they probably won't believe you.

Love, Me

I sat there for the next few hours re-reading the letter and tumbling the package in my hand. I kept looking at the pictures on the wall, I kept going through memories. Even with the lost moments, poor decisions, and immense sorrow and pain. I got up, picked up the package. I walked outside. I actually gave the package a little kiss and said a silent thank you to myself, then placed the package in the trash.

The things I wish I could undo, would actually destroy what I have. So we learn from the mistakes. We continue to strive to be a better self. To love ourselves. Without that sort of drive, there will never be change.

And we'll never know 😝

This was such a lovely read! I don't know why, but there's something so beautiful about this concept of receiving letters/messages from our own future self.

There's so much love and wisdom there and the way you expressed it was so genuine. I honestly loved it, and now I want to take part in this contest too, haha!

Can you give me the link to the original announcement page of this contest so I can read the rules? Thanks!

Again, brilliant work here :)

Thank you so much 😊 I greatly appreciate the feedback and the visit. It is an 'internal' contest so you would have to be a member of #PowerHouseCreatives (@steemitbloggers)
Here is the best link I can give
https://steempeak.com/steem/@jaynie/jaynie-1552682181235-an-invitation-to-the-truly-passionate-people-of-steem

I've tried to apply several times but everytime it shows the exact same message on Discord: "Invite Expired" even if I tried to apply right after the invitation post was made.

Can you help me with this? I really want to be a part of the Powerhouse Creatives but this issue has been like a barrier for a long time.

Well there are 2 ways we can proceed from here. I'll mention you to her. Is your Discord name the same as your Steemit name?

so true! Nice work! I loved reading this.

Thank you very much @owasco 😊 Thank you so much for stopping by.

I actually gave the package a little kiss and said a silent thank you to myself, then placed the package in the trash.

A nice way to treat something from the past @tryskele 😉

It's like thank you for the gift. I cherish the gesture, but we're going to leave things be.

I guess that comes with age LOL. I have learned that lesson also. It's kind of neat when you see how a decision has lead to something that has a great impact on you. Thanks @manoldonchev 😊

You are welcome.
