Good Cop In Action

The role of the Indian police in today's story is a clear departure from the general tendency of inaction and neglect. This is a shining example, I'll say.

In the story that unfolded in India's Uttarakhand's Ramnagar, the boy is a Muslim, the girl's a Hindu and the police officer is a Sikh.

According to the news, the two Hindu-Muslim lovers were accused by a Hindu mob of "getting intimate" at a temple. And the mob started attacking the Muslim boy – as luck would have it for him, Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh was in the vicinity and he came to the boy's rescue, fearing that the angry mob may lynch him to death.

The police officer said he received a lot of positive messages from the social media and the police department; however he also received several hate messages.

I think those who sent the hate messages are people who habitually accused the Muslims of what they called "Love Jihad". Well, whatever may be the case, the presence of mind and timely rescue – by Gagandeep Singh, the police officer – is worthy of praise, I'll say. He literally had to ward off the angry mob single-handedly where things could have turn ugly in seconds. This is what a hero does. Good job!
