Why I'm so excited about the Steem Blockchain

in #share2steem5 years ago

I plan to write yet another blog post about Steem in the very near future, but I thought I'd do a quick shout out for now, highlighting a graphic I created for my post back in April called, "I put my money where my blog is with Steem" (https://tinyurl.com/investedinmyblogwithsteem). I was actually inspired to do this for two reasons - the first is that hubby & I have had an ongoing conversation over the course of today, discussing the state of Steem, and where we see it headed in the very near future. One of the points we discussed centered around the fact that I've had a WordPress blog for 14 years, and I've had AdSense installed since February 2014. While AdSense is technically free to use, since you have to have a self-hosted site to install it, I figure it actually costs me $9.95 per month (which is what my hosting company charges). I joined the Steem Blockchain in September 2017, but didn't really start blogging regularly until a couple months later. Since I signed up for an account through the official Steemit site, it took a couple of weeks to get it approved, but it didn't cost me a penny to join, and I didn't have to pay anything to use the site.

In those early days, I'd post content on my WordPress blog, then head over to my Steem blog to recreate it there. However, in June 2018, I installed the SteemPress plugin, so now all my content automatically appears on the Steem blockchain.

Here is the chart I put together for the post, showing the side by side comparisons of what each blog, sharing similar content, earns per month. I can't wait to see what this chart looks like one year from now, after Steem has rocketed to the moon!

Oh wait! I almost forgot the second reason - I was scrolling through Twitter a short time ago, and noticed that @donald.porter was offering a bounty for sharing your favorite Steem related Chart on Twitter or Instagram. I came back: my WP blog was costing me $99/year as I elected to have no ads and then I realised Adsense made no sense, so didn't go that route.

Then when Steempress happened, I discovered that my Premium blog plan wouldn't take the plugin. So I then got another WP blog via @vornix. Now, I'm moving - again. But thanks to @gmuxx, I'm going the self-hosted route... Watch this space!

I am coming over to read properly when things calm down to a panic. I am working on a consolidation of my blogging outside and on to the blockchain. For exactly the same reasons. I plan to share about that.

Have a good weekend @traciyork!

I'm retired so my life is lived at the pace I choose but I lol at 'when things calm down to panic'!!!
I remember 'those days' so well.
I look forward to reading about 'blogging outside and onto blockchain'..............have no clue what you mean.

When I wrote that comment, I was heading into a busy weekend - my weekends are always busy and I love it that way! I cook for the market and then host suppers in our home, for guests in the village. Somewhere in between that I do the odd blog post (not as in-depth as I'd like) and as I'm self employed, if I'm working I'm earning so I'm not grumbling.

Oh, and I'm working on that post for my 2nd steem birthday which is coming up...

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting rubbish returns on advertising on WP, although I use WP.com. My issue with them is that my ad earnings dropped from $800 last May to what's going to be around $200 this May - a decrease of four times in a year - now I get more hits and a lower bounce rate.

That might be due to GDPR, but I'm sure the company is bullshitting me, nothing has that much of an impact on revenue.

Having said that WP is second to none in terms of useable software, IF you use the old version and not the truly awful monstrosity that is the block editor.

And at least with WP I know that what I'm earning is the true 'market value' of the knowledge i put out, or at least the true market value as filtered by Google.

On Steem, most of my content has a true market value of 0 but it's gifted rewards through a patronage system - i.e. people don't read anything but they upvote you regularly because they like you, and the amount of patronage you get is broadly correlated with the amount of Steem you've got vested (i.e you'll get more upvotes from large accounts if you invest more).

Hence I'm still undecided if I should classify my rewards on Steem as earnings, it's the wrong word technically, although ATM I do call them earnings!

This might actually change to an extent with some ideas @oracle-d has about getting investors to pay people to write content on steem via delegation.

I think I 'earn' about as much a month on steem as I do through ads on WP, but it's kind of hard for me to make a comparison as they're too very different outlets for me.

Steem's a lot more fun, that's for sure.

Sorry about the long comment, love this topic, and I should be doing the washing up now, this is a good distraction!

Let's hope Steem will be rocketed to the moon!!!!

I think I need to take some lessons from you. We both came from Ello to Steem about the same time, but I estimate earnings of about $23.76 per month, so you're doing something I am failing to do. I joined PHC a month after I came here, and have been very active in Discords & communities, networking, and promoting my posts while supporting others. Maybe you're just in better "other commuities" besides PHC than I am in. Anyway, I am happy for you, that you are doing that well here! Way to go, girlfriend! 🙌

I've seen people having niché specific success with blogs outside of Steem but there's no arguing about Steem being the best place to find value for your posts - both rewards and actual feedback. Well, that's a personal truth, of course.

Ads blockers and fraud make the ads business less profitable. The industry need to evolve with something like the Brave browser experiment.

I must admit... I often find it confusing how we give our time and energy to social media’s that will never give us a dime.
Even if steem isn’t much... it’s atleast trying to create a world where our content output can find value.
But people look at me weird when I say things like that.. so I just kinda keep it to myself these days.
Nice chart!
