Natural Mosquito Repellant
In some of my recent posts I've mentioned the amount of mosquitoes that are outside the city here in Alberta.
It's insane.
The fields are still a bit flooded in areas and the ditches are filled with stagnant water, perfect for breeding mosquitoes.
Another factor is that, at the time of this post, I have yet to see even one dragonfly and have only seen one single wasp. With no predators the mosquitoes are in clouds everywhere looking for delicious humans and animals to feast on.
Well too bad mosquitoes! I got stuff to do outside but I won't be allowing you eat me alive.
I researched a little and realized I may have the perfect repellant in my home already!
I gathered dried calendula flowers, dried lavender and olive oil and put them in a big jar where they shall sit for the next several weeks.
The flowers will infuse into the oil and since mosquitoes aren't fond of all three ingredients it SHOULD work. I also have lavender essential oil I can add later if the dried lavender is not strong enough.
This is my first try making a repellant and I really hope it works! I stumbled upon the fact that they hate calendula completely by accident. I make a calendula lotion and put it on before going into the garden the other day. I literally watched a mosquito make a U-turn from my leg once she caught the scent! Plus it's soooo nice for the skin!
I can't wait until this stuff is ready! I'll let you all know how it works and hopefully it will be a simple solution to an annoying problem.
Take care Steemians!

Apparently I'm everywhere! 😉
Feel free to follow me here too!
It sounds good. The only thing I'm worried about is that in next few weeks waiting for that stuff to get ready the mosquitoes will eat you, hehe.
Haha right?!? I should be ok, my original lotion bar recipe seems to work pretty good, plus I still have some additional calendula infused oil in my cupboard, I could put a couple drops of lavender essential oil in that and it would work great as well!
That's a LOT of bugs on your car. I don't envy your outdoor living. You might attract bees with the lavender smell!
Funny you should mention it, I make my own deodorant too and used a ylang ylang scented one the other day and three different times a bee landed on me! 😆
Cool bee's. That's great you have them around your place. I only saw one this year in our yard.
Oh wow that's so sad!! Bees are I. Such a decline everywhere, I wish humans would wise up! We need them to survive!
We have hundreds of wild bees here in Alberta, they rock :)
I hope you start seeing more soon!!!
I was going to plant wildflowers but that may be some time from now.
Great idea, I hope it's efficient.
Good luck
Thank you!! I hope so too!
