The showing of cats is a very popular goal for cat enthusiasts. Breeders will often aim to produce some of the best specimens possible and many avid cat buyers will seek these perfect kittens at a premium. It is quite common for a new cat breeder to take this all in their stride and eventually get sucked into the world of show cats and grooming. It can be said that the show cat industry has evolved its taste over the years and has come to realise what is defined as a perfect aesthetic look. Initially, Persians in particular were quite a popular choice of show cat. It was thought that most perfect examples would hold a pure coloured coat without any shading, patterning or blending with colours. This of course would also reflect a pure lineage of the pedigree where the purest breeds were used. However, as time went on this was very much a rare feat. The number of pure coloured Persians had diminished and features at cat shows was scarce at best. It was at this point where cats with minimal patterning and spots were allowed to participate. As time moved on, people came to realise that cats of the bi colour nature had distinct patterning. This transformed the outlook of the show cat aesthetic opinion and the bi colour Persians were recognised as an exclusive breed in their own right.

The recognition of the Bi Colour Persian gave rise to a new type of standard that cats were graded on. The distinction of the Bi colour Persian would come from the form of their solid colours. The most desirable show cats would maintain a perfect balance of their colours. There would be very little patterning, if any. Instead, there would be clearly defined blocks on the body of the cat and the underside would maintain the form of the torso. When a cat possesses these traits along with intense grooming treatment can create a dazzling show cat that will be admired by many.

The Tortoiseshell would typically be described as cats who are mixed with red and another colour. There are times where this breed goes a step further and its coat features white in its spectrum as well. Black, Red and white patches can create a most beautiful coat that is very unique. Of course there will be other colour variations that lead to even more exotic blends.
