Cat Treatments

Cats are survivors and may seem like natural born fighters. However, no matter how healthy or energetic a cat may seem, being unprepared for illness is a recipe for disaster. Cats benefit from shots (inoculations) a great deal and will be able to ward of diseases with much better successes if topped up in a timely manner. Cats who fall ill to certain diseases that can be prevented by vaccine are at major risk and treatment after manifestation is often difficult and perhaps in some cases, not possible. So planning ahead and getting a vet to give a cat immunity from a very early stage is very important and will help to promote a long and healthy life.

New born kittens can sometimes be a little weak and vulnerable to disease. Thankfully, maternal care provides milk which boosts immunity of the new born significantly. After some time however, weaning will take place and progressively less of the mother’s milk will be supplied. This results in a drop in supplement to the immune system and a growing kitten will once again begin to become vulnerable. Inoculations are the best way to solve this issue, a controlled exposure to infections that creates antibodies for immunity is the best way to keep a young cat protected. A cat might feel a little lethargic after these shots but will soon recover with a sustained healthy immune system shortly after.

With modern technology and medicinal advancement, common diseases in cats are a thing of the past. A number of vaccine regimes have been developed and if followed in timely fashion, cats will live healthily for many years to come. In general, a schedule will start from around nine weeks from birth with the first inoculation and will follow a number of other treatments. This includes a number of anti-virus shots, infections and even conditions such as leukaemia. Flea treatment, neutering, deworming and much more will happen in the first few months of owning a young kitten and it is important that an owner make time for these. Ignoring these procedures could cost a cat its health later on and will almost undoubtedly lead to severe suffering. Even if a cat stays in doors for most of its life, there will still be a great amount of risk from outside bodies entering the house or even the momentary lapse that can lead to an escape of a household cat round the block. The risks are simply not taken.

Good cat health is definitely important. Curator Cat came to us as a tiny kitten and although he seemed in good health when he came from the animal shelter, he almost immediately fell ill with some kind of infection and almost died... but thanks to antibiotics he pulled through and is now a large healthy cat.
