Daily Cat Care I
The Sick Cat
Cats are resilient animals and will persevere in the harshest conditions to continue living. This is the somewhat proud nature of a cat that makes them hard to understand and observe at times. Healthy cats are what all owners wish for but there may be more than meets the eye when monitoring the health of a feline companion. Paying closer attention to a cat’s behaviour and regular body inspections will help discover any problems that may not be obvious at an early stage. Early detection and treatment can prevent serious conditions that can be costly later down the line.
Cat health is a direct reflection of their current lifestyle. This relates to all aspects of life including diet, activity, environment and a multitude of other things. A healthy cat will look so, with a shiny coat and well hydrated skin. Even from just inspection a cats face, its mouth, eyes, whiskers and ears will all show healthy signs. Any signs of dryness, soreness or general abnormalities is often a sign of an underling issue.
Behaviour of a cat is a direct sign of possible illness that could befall a beloved pet. Any sudden change in habits will be a knock on effect of another issue that is affecting wellbeing of a cat. A Vet’s advice is of value and any abnormalities should be reported to a specialist to ensure proper care and procedures are followed. The most obvious changes in a cat will related to both drinking an eating habits and perhaps social elements also.
Someone examining a cat for symptoms may find it difficult to detect subtle changes in a cat as behavioural tendencies can only be observed from those who interact and are around the cat on a daily basis. A change in social activity where a cat has lost confidence and seems timid may also indicate an issue with the cat’s health. Even failure to respond to its name when called will indicate an issue as cats will normally respond to this call.
Cat stool is a very clear indication of a cats digestive health and other factors that affect its wellbeing in general. Cat faeces will normally be a rigid and firm shape without smelling too foul in the household. Any loose stools, foul smelling or blood indicates an issue that requires immediate attention. A vet visit should be arranged as soon as possible. In fact any blood, whether in urine, genitals or faeces is a cause for concern and should be addressed immediately.
