Blue Persians
The Persian breed is very interesting indeed with many colours and patterns being brought into the mix of breeds that have emerged over the years. Deviating from plain black and white, there exists the breed known as the Blue Persian. This is a breed that came about almost over one thousand years ago and were kept as luxury pets. Blue Persians were regarded as the crème de la crème and were sold for significantly high prices within the cat market. This was particularly prominent around Europe and many different public figures and royalty came to obtain the Blue Persian. There can be many motivating factors that dictate the price of a cat breed. This includes scarcity, demand and general market sentiment at the time. However, for this type of cat it was thought that higher price tag was warranted as the colour of its fur was closet to the original pure Persian discovered many years back. The European market had received its first batch of Pure Breed Persians in the early 1600s and this was indeed highly sought after.
The Blue Persian also carries another name that breeders will recognise, The Maltese cat. This is not a reference to a chocolate, it’s due to the fact that the Blue Persian is thought to have originally been bred on the island of Malta. The colour of the cat is of course very distinct and will appear as shades between blue and grey. As a show cat, this is very desirable and many techniques are used to bring out the shine of the Maltese Blue Persian. One again, these types of cats are considered perfect specimens if no other colouring or markings are present.
There are many standards within the cat show industry that dictate what is desirable to be considered a high quality specimen. This has influenced breeding habits significantly and has continued to do so for many years. Regardless of slight defects however, it is unadvisable for an owner to feel any cat in their possession as undesirable. A cat is a companion for life and will buuld a great relationship with its family in the household. Blue Persians are known to be very sociable and interactive cats. They will bring great energy into the household and form bonds that many other solitude cats cant.
Some very sweet poses in today's post @thecatfiles! Don't know if you were deliberately trying to do this to match today's topic... but clever how the shadows on the cat look almost "bluish" to match "blue Persians."
Have a great day!
