Torpid Thursday | Groggy + Driving = Bad

It sure was a beautiful day today! Big fluffy clouds in a bright sky accompanied me all day. It was a nice change from the gloomy heavy skies of late that have been casting a grey pallor over everything.

Despite the gentle sunshine, everything is still wet and cold, so I wore my thermals under my work uniform today since I was going to be working in a more rural area today and the wet earth really seems to radiate the cold right to the bones.

The last time it rained really hard in this area was about a year ago and I got my work truck stuck in the mud. Back then I had to get the help of the abuelita who lived there and she grabbed a shovel and quickly got some gravel under the tire for traction. I learned my lesson that day not to trust my work truck in any kind of mud no matter how dry it looked! This year I stayed on the pavement so she wouldn’t have to dig me out of the mud again.

Anyways, I was going along fine today until it was time to head back to town. Driving along on the freeway I started to get drowsy. I had to resort to my usual method of staying alert by slapping myself in the face. I was going along fine until I was only a few dozen yards from the office and I dozed off momentarily...

As soon as I got home I laid down and took a nap, until I tried to rouse myself and I couldn’t. Instead I tumbled into a strange dream state limbo, unable to stay awake and unable to sleep soundly.

It’s just one of those days were the diabetes just takes a strong grip on the wheel and takes a detour for the day. All I can do is take my insulin, get some more rest, and hope for a better day tomorrow.
