OUCH! F&*K Stung by that tail, lathered in neurotoxins. The Stingray

in #animal7 years ago (edited)

Today was the day.

The subtle amounts of a venom necessary to cause immense pain can be tiny. I learned this recently with jalepeno peppers, after having cut a bunch my hands were on fire. This on the other hand. Is an entirely different story. The burning sensation and confusion standing in the water, instant and extreme pain.

I was enjoying the beautiful waves crashing. Next thing I know, running out of the water in a mad dash. Blood streaming out the side of my foot. Ran to the rocks, sat down for only a moment before proceeding to head back to the vehicle. I was yelling some profanities to let the pain pass. This is up there with some of the most painful stings from the vemon as well as the tail! You can see why I was yelling. Luckily this was a small stingray and still had a small tail. This image below is from one that would likely sting you calf and leave this thing stuck all the way in there!

STING and remedy...

Spent an hour on the beach continually recovering my foot in the hottest sand i could find. Why you might ask. Stingrays. A majestic creature with a tail like a sarraded fishing hook. Covered in neurotoxins the create intense pain killing the tissue around the wound. Lucky it was a small stingray and we knew the toxic enzymes breakdown under intense heat. Quickly looking for hot water a local fisherman stopped and told me to cover it in hot sand. GENIUS. Here i was looking for boiling hot water, the sand should do! Local tricks to save you on a hell of a lot of pain. Anything hot will do the trick. Be careful not to burn yourself. This is some intense pain and the sands heat is underwhelming in comparison.

The barb is covered with rows of sharp flat spines, composed of vasodentin. Vasodentin is an incredibly strong cartilaginous material which can easily cut through flesh. The undersides of the spines contain two longitudinal grooves which run along the length of the spine and enclose venom-secreting cells. Both the venom-secreting tissues and vasodentin are enveloped in an epidermis that tears open when the barb is plunged into a victim. Some spines may break off as the barb exits the wound and stay within the victim causing prolonged envenoming

Over an hour of burning, intense pain.

I did my best to enjoy it, to breathe, knowing it will all be ok. In like an hour!!! WoW
Covered in sand from continually trying to roll the wound in the hottest sands I could find was a little exhausting in the mid day heat. Finding refuge under the shelter of a tree while i paraded my foot in the scolding sand and sun! The burning and spasming effects in my muslce moving up my calf and into my thigh. Thinking to myself, this is much to close to organs and what nots! Layed down and tried to almost sleep through it.... It was a long journey, probably recovering my foot with hot sand for the better part of two hours.

here me feeling the burn of the sand. easier than the burn of the venom!

Hope to never have that experience, but I am now armed with some good advice just in case!

Yeah, it coulda been a lot worse. The docotor said I got lucky. I always knew there was a little luck on my side. The pain was excruciating, but at least that tail was not stuck in my foot. SOme poeple have residuale pain from the neuro toxin for up to two weeks if they dont hit it with the hot hot right way. SO glad to know hot sad!!! saved me some serious extra pain

Shitty news. Glad you didnt end up with the crocodile hunter.. Keep posting your awesome adventures. Im now following. and feel free to follow back and like anything I post thats worth it. Thanks

Great, thank you for the follow, following you too!

Yikes friend! Be careful where you step! Hope you're doing ok, that doesn't sound fun!

Sting ray shuffle for ever and always. Glad it wasnt a big one, of to the doctor tomorrow to see if we need antibiotics from the vemon and it possibly causing infection. Damn rays! Thank you for the support. Was getting a hay day with pain today. Than almost right back to normal two hours later.

Hope it clears up soon!
Put some oil on your hand before you handle the chilies to avoid the burn!

Yeah, little life hacks can save you a lot of trouble and pain!

Yeah, It was very very painful! Doctor says I got really really lucky that the stabber didnt get stuck in my foot!

I got nailed by jellyfish in Equador, same thing the locals told me to roll in the hot sand. Here in Texas I get stung by scorpions fairly regularly and learned to make a paste of bentonite clay and water, it takes the pain away-but like you a thank the scorpion for the experience and then squash him, sorry...

Yeah, the scorpion sting aint got nothing on this. Scorpions are mostly rather annoying. This was excuriating!

I'm sure it was much worse, if you're feeling bold try making a clay paste (or whatever compact dirt you've got) and applying and eat some. saw a special where some species of critter in the rainforrests ate clay and mud to disarm the toxins in the plants they were eating-may be far fetched, but the animals seem to know what to do and I'd be trying anything to lower the pain-I'll follow you and your adventure!!!

Luckily the burning hot sand saved me a lot of future pain. The doctor said when its not hit with a lot of heat fast, the pain and sweellling can last weekkss!!WoW! Yea, our dog eats so much dirt wit his food, its probably good for your belly. I am sure we used to live that way. Ill start throwing some red earth in with the meals. Thank you for the follow! WE appreciate all the support

Ouch that looks and sounds supr painful o: I hope my Resteem will help you get over the pain ;)

Yeah, it was rough, visited the doctor today, he says it looks good and that I was very lucky the tail didnt get stuck in my foot! a common occuerence

Anyways rest the foot for some time so it can not get infected or some shit like that :o

Yeah, docotr says it was good, hitting it with rubbing alcohol daily!
