Getting quotes from Plumbers and my thoughts on my kitchen situations

in #construction7 years ago

Today was the day of appointments with plumbers to get quotes to run the water pipe from the tap to the house. I woke up late and then I was rushing trying to catch up half the day. The first guy that came out actually told me to get other estimates and he would give me one lower then the others.

Wait what? That isn't what you are suppose to be doing you are suppose to be giving me an quote on what you will charge me, and it kind of scared me when he said that, so the first guy I met with today is out based on the fact I am not hiring someone based that they are willing to price throat cut the other bids. I honestly would be worried that they wouldn't do a good job.

The second company that came out, I liked them from the first phone call. Their bid will be back on Monday. The guy who came out spent time talking with me and about what we plan to do with development and even suggested a split fitting with a turn off, so if we ever need to run pipes to another area of the property we can without a steep cost.

After I met with the second company it was lunch time so I ran two blocks down the road to grab a bite to eat, as I was finishing the third company I had an appointment with called and said they were on their way. I finished my lunch and headed back to the property to meet with them. He didn't spend a long time with me, but their company has already emailed me their quote and it is lower than what I thought it would be. I am hoping the other quote comes in around the same price. Because even though I didn't find any issues with the third company. I am like the second one better. I can't tell you why but I do.

Though we are going through this process, it is hard to believe that in a few short weeks there will be a house on this land. It feels surreal.

We should be moved just in time for Thanksgiving in my new kitchen. You guys can't begin to understand how excited I am about this. I love the storage space in my current kitchen, lots of cabins, and nice big pantry, but the stove is in the counter, and because the oven doesn't work properly here the small prep counter I had, is now taken up by a convection oven so I can cook. So I have to put cutting boards on the stove to prep food or go into the dining room to prep because there isn't room in the narrow kitchen for any movable pieces. I love to cook but it is a pain in the butt to cook a good meal in this house, I need counter space.

In my new house I will have an island in my kitchen, the perfect prep surface for preparing food. I haven't had a proper kitchen in years not since we moved to the town we live in now. So I think I am more excited about that feature of our new house than anything else, except maybe the master bath being attached to the master bedroom, we have two baths here, one upstairs and one down stairs, but that means the bathroom my husband and I use since our bedroom is down stairs is also the guest bath, and that is kind of annoying, sometimes you want to leave your dirty clothes on the bathroom floor.

It isn't a huge house but not tiny either it has a total of 1315 sq ft of living and since we only have the youngest still at home and sooner rather than later he will be flying the nest too, it will be plenty big enough for my husband and I. Hopefully everything continues to go well and continues moving smoothly. The plan is to have all the work done in 45 days. Typing that out that doesn't seem that far away and it isn't. So far I think the paper work and red tape has been the most frustrating out of everything.

Well that is the last update on the house built till Monday, unless we hear back from the foundation guys over the weekend with their bids. If you are following our construction, tune back in Monday for the next update.

"Bid-Shopping" (cut throating) might be illegal in your area, you might wanna call the BBB and report him... It is likely he undercuts others and them over-charges the customers he has convinced that he is a "good guy". You are right to rule him out, most likely. Prolly a dodgey character IMO!

Thanks for the upvote on my latest post, I had to come check you out!
Best of luck on this build, but unless it's a modular I doubt you will be
moved in by Thanksgiving :( Hopefully I am wrong, but house construction
rarely comes off on time. I'm in construction also, btw.

F.U.R.R. for @tecnosgirl!!!

It is and it will be on the property by November 1st. As long as the foundation and septic are done on time and I am told it will be we will be good the other work will take less than 1/2 a day

Very Nice! Happy Moving, hope it goes SMOOTHLY!!! ;)
