Wednesday walk challenge and Steem Basic Income Give away
Wednesday walk challenge and Steem Basic Income Give away
Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.
This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines
Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.
Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.
Try and get a few shots not just one
You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.
Try to limit yourself to a set distance or time from the starting location, say 5 Blocks, 5 Minutes walk or whatever and see what you can find in that short distance
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss
Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all.
Following me and resteeming the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion, but you may have a better chance of receiving a Steem Basic Income Share if you do.
I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules
I will try and visit, resteem and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk, plus I will be sending @steembasicincomeshares to a selection of those who participate.
these weeks walk around Dag Hammarskjold Plaza
Its been pretty cold this week and I didn't get out for many photo walks, but I did go for a walk fro this weeks challenge post and took a stroll around Dag Hammarskjold Plaza to see what I could notice and shoot for this weeks post, I did notice a few people out walking their dogs at the start of my stroll and that gave me an idea for a post, and not I didn't go with the dogs, some of the owners did not look that happy to be out in the cold so I was not sure they would want their photo taken so instead I went with some things the dogs seem to find useful and stop at many of them

Fire Hydrants, of which there are no shortage of them all around NYC, a fairly boring subject I guess but lets see if I can make them somewhat interesting, starting off with this one in Mono

And on to this one with a little color with the splashes of red painted on it, I guess as well as there being many Fire Hydrants around the city, there must be many bad drivers, and hence the need to put these protection Poles either side of them

Now diverting a bit from Fire Hydrants but sticking with red, I know this isn't a Hydrant, but is part I think of the Standpipe System for a building, some are free standing like this one,

And Some are built into the walls of the building and here is one with red paint on them

And here is another set where they are painted Green, which made me think to look closer to see why the different colors

And I happened to come across this pair of them which explained it all, The green connections are for the sprinkler system for the building, and the red are for the Standpipe system, and if your wondering what a standpipe system is as I understand it is a series of pipes that can connect to a water system and in effect extend the Fire Hydrant System of the city.
Steem Basic Income give away
I mentioned in the guidelines that from this week I will be sponsoring a few who join the #wednesdaywalk challenge with shares on Steem Basic Income
What is Steem Basic Income you may ask well here is how they explain it
Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content. so I have decided to randomly send some Steem to add shares for some of my followers so on the weekend
I sponsored the following people, @redpossum, @lundsten, @leylar, @manorvillemike, @porters, all people who joined in last weeks Wednesday walk .
And a special bonus this week @elizacheng will send one SBI share to @ileana56,
I would love to be able to give everyone who joins a Steem Basic Income share, but I don't make enough steem each week to do so, but I will try and share them around fairly between those that join the challenge
I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.
Unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Is there anything better than a brisk walk on a Wednesday? I don't think so! I love your fire hydrant collection! They make them fun and interesting and stand out art pieces in some places. I was trying to figure out what the green ones were July 4th read further down that they are for the sprinkler system of the entire building.
I had to actually Google that one because I was not familiar with it and Google says that the series of pipe which connect a water supply to hose connections so basically an extension of the fire hydrant system. They're actually designed to provide a pre piped water system for building occupants or the fire department.
I have personally always love the bright colors dotting the city streets. This was a wonderful and I am always happy to tag along with you.
Upped and steemed

Notice the word Siamese being used in this fire hose context! Why don’t they use ‘double’!?

Nice pictures! It is interesting the various kinds of hydrants that are out there. Some of them are in great condition and others not so much. There is a road over near my house that has a hydrant and a sign next to it that says "dry hydrant". They just want to make it clear to fire fighters they can't connect to the hydrant and expect water...
Thanks and Yes I have seen such a variety as well, some in really good shape and some not so much so
They did a project not he towns Anniversry a few years back where people could adopt and paint a Hydrant, some of the creations were very cool and fun to see.
A dry HYdrant, for sure good to let the firefighters now, but I do wonder why keep it there if its dry
I think it is part of the water system and it is easier just to label it as a dry hydrant as opposed to removing it and then having to cap off the line. It's probably just laziness really :)
That makes sense, probably more cost effective to put up a sign than to take it out
Have a great day @tattoodjay!
Hope you have an awesome year!
