Exaggerated Self Importance: STEEM Does NOT Need You!!!

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Do you want the truth?

You are entitled to nothing. STEEM does not need you. If you leave, it means absolutely nothing to this blockchain.

How is that for self-realization?

STEEM is an OPPORTUNITY. That is all.

You have a choice to take advantage of that opportunity or not...it is up to you.

We have roughly 900K account on the STEEM blockchain with somewhere around 55K-60K daily active users. Figuring double or triple that show up here on a monthly, albeit not a daily, basis, let's say there are 700K registered who left. Why did they leave? A great number, I believe ,is because of the slow sign up process. Motivation is lost between the time coming on here and when one gets approved. Another is that people find the interface too difficult and do not want to spend the time learning it. Finally, many are posting that people are getting upset about their quality posts not being rewarded while garbage posts hit the trending page.

No matter what the reason, it matters none. STEEM does not depend upon them for success.

I am sure that is surprising coming from someone who is so positive about this blockchain and what is taking place. It is due to my optimism that I realize many people need to go. We do not need them.

Are you unhappy with the payout on your posts? Great. Go to Facebook, Blogspot, Wordpress, or Linkedin and post on there. Before going, please tell us how much you were paid over there.....

Unless one has a huge following, the odds are little to none.

But 700K people signed up and do not come on here?

So what?

There are billions of people online. Reddit alone, which is nothing more than a linking site with a sprinkling of discussion, has 250M users. Do you think 700K really matters? Being so small, it is a large number but, in the grand scheme of things, it is a rounding error.

But the system is unfair?

Is it? How long have you been here? I love seeing that from people who are a couple months. Also, tell me what have you done for this blockchain. The entire STEEM system is based upon CONTRIBUTION to this blockchain. It is clearly stated in the white paper.

STEEM is not based upon entitlement. Just because you sign up here and post an article, that does not entitle you to huge rewards. Contribution is what is rewarded.

The trending page is full of garbage article circle voted up....

So don't look at the trending page. Focus upon your feed and those you support.

This is also social media. By definition, interaction is a part of it. Posts are not failing to garner rewards out of intent, it is because nobody knows they exist.

But I have 400K followers on Facebook. Yes, and now, because of the change in algorithm, you reach 3K of them (I know someone that happened to). I am sure your contribution to that platform is appreciated by Zuckerberg and his Wall Street cronies...it honestly means nothing to STEEM. This is a different animal.

Spend as much time contributing to the STEEM blockchain as you did on Facebook and then see what your rewards look like. This is not a short term deal. It takes time to build a following, to garner enough SP that one gets a decent return, and to catch the eye of those with some power. It is not an overnight process in most instances.

The price of STEEM is down?

Has anyone noticed what happened to the motivation overall? It appears that is a lot less posting going on.

Ironic, this is ass backwards thinking. Did you know the reward pool has increased? In fact, it is at an all-time high.

Here is a post by @dragosroua spelling out the numbers....

https://busy.org/@dragosroua/steemit-rewards-pool-is-at-an-all-time-high-now

Yes it is worth a lot less in fiat than couple months ago...all crypto is like that. However, over 740K STEEM are available a week. That is a healthy chunk. Yet many people are posting less. To me, it seems like those who are reading these words will want to take advantage of that.

Simple math, increase reward pool in terms of STEEM yet less articles posted each day means more for each article.

Right now STEEM is the only game in town. Will that always be the case? Most likley not. That said, there is some amazing development taking place. Those who want to be part of a very strong community, it is here for them. STEEM is the epitome of volunteerism. Nobody is forced to join nor remain.

Those who get frustrated and leave, good luck to you. As I said, STEEM provides an OPPORTUNITY. We all have opportunities in life, some we take, others we pass up. The difficulty is when we pass on something, owning up to it. It is far easier to blame others to justify our decisions.

Here is another fact...if you leave STEEM, it is your choice.

By the same token, if you stay, you have the chance to succeed if you are consistent, put in the effort, and are willing to take the time for success to arrive.

Complaining about the Whales being able to get in two years ago is not the path to success.

Why didn't you join two years ago like they did? Because you didn't know about it? I didn't know about Amazon when it was $7 a share. Should I besmirch all those who bought in at that price and are worth a ton of money today? What does that solve? Should they pay attention to me because I was not around to get in then? Does me not participating show them? I am going to guess Amazon will proceed the same whether I am involved or not.

The opportunity for me to post a year ago was not available to me....but it is today. I can make the most of what is presented now.

STEEM is going to be a screaming success. Yet I realize it will do it whether I am here or not. I try to make a positive impact and carry the message of what is before us. However, I am under no delusion that STEEM would collapse if I left. Complaining about the imperfections of this system and leaving only hurts me. The blockchain is harmed none.

It took a lot of years to get over my exaggerated self importance...heck it is still a struggle at times.

There is a wonderful community forming on this blockchain, do you want to be a part of it? If you are concerned about what others are getting, then you will most likely end up leaving in frustration. Know that if you do, STEEM will keep forging ahead. In that instance, I believe, the only one who will suffer is you.

I am grateful for every upvote I receive. I know it is a choice of whether people choose to support what I post. Simply because I feel that I post quality content does not mean others will support it. That simply how this works.

STEEM is much bigger than I am. Collectively we all will make this work. However, if I leave, there will be 10 other people joining who will fill my place. This blockchain will attract millions over the next couple of years.

The question is do I want to be a part of it or not?

It is my choice.

If you found this article informative, please give it an upvote and resteem.

So @taskmaster4450, why don't you tell me how you really feel? :)

Love it! We live in the land of entitlement where people continue to expect so much for putting in so little. Thank you for saying it like it should be said. My father was an old school farmer; this reminds me of what he would say! (That's a good thing by the way;)

I am a member of several groups who welcome, support and mentor new people here, namely @asapers and @newbieresteemday, and this is what I tell new people:

You must look outward, not inward, be selfless and giving; and to do that, you must focus on genuine commenting and in the process develop genuine relationships. Which all takes time. If you focus on you and your posts, you will remain alone.

Imagine moving to a new town where you don't know a soul. You're so excited to be there, so you decide to throw a party. You meticulously plan everything, you buy and prepare food and drinks for everyone, and you even decorate. It takes a lot of time and effort, but that's ok, because when the night of the party arrives, everything is perfect. Your house looks great, the food and drinks look awesome, and you even look like a million bucks. It's all ready. So you open your front door and you wait, and wait, and wait...

...and not a single soul shows up. Absolutely no one.

Like you said, no one owes "you" anything!!

And lastly

It took a lot of years to get over my exaggerated self importance...heck it is still a struggle at times.

What??? I find that difficult to believe ;)

Thanks again and sorry for the novel here haha Happy Sunday!

Novels are allowed...

Thank you for the time to write out such a thoughtful comment.

Be careful what you say haha

You are most welcome ;)

Yes because she leaves novels in the form of comments where ever she goes haha

hahaha you again ;)

This is a great comment, my Queen! Took me long enough before I realized that looked outward and stop being self fish and having the mentality that I want all the upvotes and attention to me.

Only when I celebrated the wins and projects of people and helped begin communities that things got better for me.

What we give must be freely given without the expectations that it is returned because by expecting you are not truly giving.

You are not owed by anyone.

You said it brother!! I figured it out after a few weeks; I kept writing blogs and then waiting for all the attention to come raining down on me haha Then one day it simply dawned on me, and I asked myself, "why on earth is anyone coming to you??" I knew I had to get out there. At least the queen was a quick learner ;)

Ahahha good for you! Took me a month before i stopped having a brainfart and knew the right mentality in Steemit.
Now I am almost at my 6 months in the platform and have reached out and touched so many lives and people that like my content. I wish it were whales but minnows and red fishes like me are also important!

Better late than never;) But yes, the true value is in our helping of others. And I think that if you can find a red fish who can also do a little dance, then in my books, that's more than enough haha

in the grand scheme of things, it is a rounding error.

I laughed out loud at this!

Arguably...One of the most important posts in the past few weeks on Steemit!

Had to do a video 'response' to it because I agreed with it so much!

Loved it man, wake up call for the entitlement crowd and feel like they are owed a thing here.

Jon, I came over here to read after seeing your video. definitely a must read. It is also a motivator for me to keep producing and contributing everyday! Every FREAKING day!

Perhaps in a year or two people will complain why they didn't join a year or two ago.

And we are going to be the big cheeses.. And so the cycle begins anew 😉.

LOL You are right @gregan. The cycle does begin again...people will complain in two years that they couldnt get in today....when STEEM was under $2.

I bought at $4.60 and $2.60 and I'm perfectly fine with that. Go go Summer bull run.

Resteemed
First of all. I will not say anything about the fact that newbie are leaving as figures will.
But I will be gifted if you csn read my words loadly..... get rich ads about steem is the reason to many to join snd yo leave.
What content you speak sbout ?
In your podt hrre how msny times you upvoted comments... let me count ...many but did the other bloggers do the same as you do...No. they did not.
I know one great photographer here . He is ftom banglaish. He is striving to ducced in steemians. Rewards for his work is 0.02.... at most. Why.. bcz the big players are keeping the voting power to themselves.....
To make long story shirt. Steemit is for english native and rich people.

Plenty of non English speaking people on here. Lots of Spanish speaking people...my feed has a few people from Cuba on it....

Indonesia and Nigeria also have large representations.

these communities are acting like one team bcz simply they are one team.
sorry i am using my mobile so some letters will not fit my large fingures.
i have checked the steem supply by drag,,,, for some big player here, for followers ratio, in most cases like this = 1 big blogger + 200 of 0 power vote + 3 to 10 middle power vote and 1 big p v
haha
it is really war
i will make now post about massive vspassive stee income
i hope you read it

So don't look at the trending page. Focus upon your feed and those you support.

That should be branded on every new person's head . I received that advice early and to this day have not gone on the trending page . If you don't support why should they support you . OOOH cause I'm entitled

Just today I wrote some of the same complaints you mentioned. I think this is a wake up call. Thanks for saying it without sugar-coating.

I'm not discouraged and I wasn't when I wrote that things aren't fair. Steemit is better to me every day. The longer I'm here, the more connections I make. I've seen amazing content here.

I think it would help us all out if the trending page were not a garbage fire. That has nothing to do with the earnings. It's just that that's the first thing a non-member sees. If steemit hadn't been personally recommended to me, I'd probably want to turn away if the trending page was the first thing I saw.

That would be a shame because like you, I think there is an amazing opportunity here.

From a growth perspective, many are being introduced for D.Tube so even though they sign up via Steemit, they immediately jump to D.tube.

It is hard, at times, not to get discouraged. Nevertheless, we need to focus upon the long term. This place is going to explode, with millions of users signing up. In a short period of time, those even with a few hundred in their accounts will see like big fish to the newer people.

Oh good point about D.tube. That was my introduction to the steem blockchain too. I planned to post daily there but it was too frustrating to deal with.

How long ago did you try it?

I havent loaded a video on there in a while....from what I understand, some of the updates cleared things up....Or did they not?

The last time I tried was nine days ago. I went back and checked which blog I used YouTube for instead.

Very interesting. It has been months since I tried to post on D.Tube so I cannot comment to the ease of uploading these days.

Thanks for the update...something to watch.

I should mention that I've just had my internet wiring updated. It's possible that it was a personal problem with failed uploads. The day I switched to youtube, everything was messed up on the blockchain.

I may have unfairly blamed d.tube. I just realized it and I apologize.

While I totally agree with both your tone and the content of your message, I would like to make a small correction: the rewards pool is actually for an entire week, it's what is available for the 7 days window to be paid to all content providers.

Thanks for the correction @dragosroua. I will edit it.

Even so, isn't there more STEEM anyways?

Some people quit because of fatigue and some because life takes a toll on them. In my case it was both. I was tired using this website for more than 90 days and needed a break. At the same time office work tripled leaving me with no time to participate in the blockchain. It might be so for next one month.

May be there is a similar reason with many. I think many people will be back or atleast login quite often as soon as they get some time.

The major problem that i personally think steem has is that the people who joined in this blockchain have joined in for money. Add to that steemit is still in its infancy and lacks diversity. Mostly of the posts here only talk about cryptos. May be this is the reason why some people might have some problem.

Never the less those who quit now will definitely regret later. This will be just like those who did not buy bitcoin when it was at its infancy.

So. I've been writing on line for at least 10 years. The only time I even paid server bills across that time was when I wrote for somebody else. Which has it's drawbacks, to say the least.

Here I can write exactly what I want to write and make what I make. The trend line is clearly up. Every week I'm here it goes up. I've got time.

I am in a position to see/hear a lot of the bellyache crowd. I look up a couple per day, and without exception they post crap no more than occasionally. Then bitch about the lack of returns. Yesterday we had a guy talking about ROI of leased Steem. His non-delegated total after 3 months on Steemit was .53 steem. Yikes.

Nobody owes me a thing. I get to make my own way by creating what a relatively small circle wants to read. The circle and I are both growing at a rate I couldn't imagine on Jan. 1.

Thanks for a really great article. I think you are mostly preaching to the choir, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't preach. There will be more choir members next week.
