The most valuable year in a lifetime?

in #steem5 years ago

You know what is funny? All this FUD around Steem this week makes me think this is a goer. While people are worried about the future of Steem, I don't think there is too much to be concerned about but there are obvious issues that will need to be addressed over time.

One of the problems that Steem faces over nearly all other blockchains is the visibility of transactions. I am not talking about the transaction numbers themselves of course as essentially all blockchains have that capability, I mean the visibility of the people that are making the transactions. For the most part, when moving any other crypto there is no one watching who is doing the moving, there is no visibility to the people behind the hash unless they make a mistake or let people actually know.

What this means is that people can be as greedy and manipulative as they like behind a complete mask of anonymity and while on Steem there can be anonymity, there is still the very real sense that people are actually involved, not some faceless entity one will never meet. In some ways the other blockchains and currencies are akin to being on the line to an automated message, no matter what they say, there is no point in arguing as it will make no difference. On Steem however it is like talking to a real person from a telephone company after they double billed you, even though they aren't directly responsible for the error, they take the full force of the attack because, they are there.

This is something else I find interesting with the crypto scene as all the other coins are nearly entirely speculative with very few people having any understanding of what the chain is actually for at all. Hands up how many people have bought a coin without having much else than a vague idea of what it does. (My hand goes up). I still have some coins I hold that I don't know what they are supposed to be designed for.

Supposed is the operative word there, hence the italics. Most of these projects ARE NOT going to ever see the light of day and will therefore only ever be speculative in nature until they slowly die away. Steem however is one of the very few that is actually doing something, not just promising something. Yep, internally we know that SMTs and communities are yet to arrive despite roadmaps but, even while there are holes in the plan, the chain continues performing and people are able to visibly use, create and earn on the Steem blockchain.

Ask all the people you know who have made money in crypto that aren't on Steem and find out how. What's the bet it is through trading, not usage. All those Bitcoin millionaires out there didn't use Bitcoin to earn, they bought and sold it and rode the price upwards as interest gained. The Steem model is different as it has actual utility outside of trading and has the ability to earn it with zero buy-in.

People are all doom and gloom but this last year of a declining market could very well be the highest earning year in your lifetime if you were investing into crypto - and on Steem, you didn't even need money upfront. At the all time high last year my account was worth about 105k. That was incredible and while it is only worth a fraction of that now, if that ATH comes again, my account will be worth 290k. I have more than doubled my Steem in the last year through some purchases but mostly, through working my goddam ass off.

Of course, it is always those who aren't forced to sell that will benefit and there is no way around that, which is why I have so much work to make ends meet in the walking world. Crypto is my hail Mary future, not something to buy my noodles with. Working in the real world gives me the chance to work on Steem without having to use it meaning, I can hold. Just because someone hasn't been able to manage their life to have the chance to hold, doesn't mean I should be ashamed to earn.

But, on Steem we can see all the people whether they are holding or selling, spamming, shitposting or doing their best. We can see people doing what they can do to satisfy their demands and when they do things we don't agree with, we have people we can shout and scream at. When you see Bitcoin getting rammed from behind because of a large selloff, who the fuck are you going to complain to? On Steem you have people to outlet onto, a community to rile.

This can make it a pretty horrible place in many ways because people are very emotional when they feel they are losing something and it is worse when what they are losing is money. Combine that with the Greed mindset of crypto enthusiasts who only care about maximization of their wallet, and there is going to be a lot of conflict and on Steem, publicly.

It is pretty interesting considering we have one of the most used blockchains in the world yet, the very people using it do not regard it as good as projects that have literally zero usage other than speculative transactions or like EOS seems to specialize in, gambling applications. Perhaps people are just too close to it all to gain some perspective, perhaps that includes me.

Yep, I want this place to workout and go to the moons of Saturn so that I can be much more picky and choosy about the work I do in this world, rather than be forced to work to make ends meet until I retire or die. I never plan on retiring, I do plan on dying though. Living forever is for chumps who think too much of themselves.

Anyway, you do what you want to do, I am going to keep doing what I want to do also. Who knows, perhaps what you want and what I want could be the same thing.

We are going to get rich soon ;)

I am a CHUMP who will live forever by freezing my head (cryogenic) with the profits from steem. Over the last year the amount of steem I have has in creased greatly. 400 to 2600 .I need to increase it more. The low price has helped, all I have to say is
SELL NED SELL. SELL IT ALL OFF.
If steem only goes up to the place it was last year I made one hell of a profit and if it doesn’t I had a great time on steem

I was having a conversation many years ago with an Atheist, and our discussion led to trying to imagine an actual Hell, not a fairytale written in a book, but one that can actually exist.

One of the scenerios we came up with was a person who wanted to live forever and had their head frozen by scientists after their death.

Let's say that brain was revived by scientists in a poor way, sometime in the future, only to be ignored or abandoned due to negligence.

If that brain, head or should I say, your brain and it's mind, was placed in an alive and conscious state, but it's state of mind involved excruciating pain (connecting a brain to a poorly built, and untested machine might be extremely painful) and it was kept alive with some sort of renewable energy, and no one actually knew you were suffering (i.e. if you were just a head or brain connected to a machine and couldn't talk) you could end up suffering for quite a long time (a.k.a. Hell) !!

He ended up having second thoughts about freezing his head after that lol.

I have no desire to live forever, on the contrary I know my mortality is very short. I also know pain and suffering. And what it is to be blessed. I will not end up in hell. ; ) better things to do with my fortune of steem.
Tarazkp will pick out the BS from the truth in my comment. : )

Thank you for your comment. Food for thought

I understand that you weren't being entirely serious with your reference to freezing your head.. but like you said, it is still something to think about.

Once a person's head is chopped off and frozen, they don't really have a say or at least no further control over the handling of their head.

Without legs to walk or run away, and no arms to protect yourself, you'd be defenseless and likely at the mercy of scientists.

LOL
The head thing is the poor mans version. Rich people do the whole body. I find the whole cryogenic thing a scam. The thing to think about is the hell, mortality, and your argument
Defenseless head LOL what’s this world comming to

Even looking past the financial aspect, look at the experiences and knowledge shared here and ask where else could you get this without a centralized risk to be censored or manipulated! The community is a large part of the value and why I continue to do this and believe in its potential!

Thanks for the inspirational post, I am absolutely with you when it comes to most people made money by buying and selling crypto.
But really endorse a system where people actually can work for rewards, like with Steem.

Speaking of myself, I always post original content and try to share interesting impressions, so I can contribute to this project.

Have a great day and good luck on your journey.

Friend I always come to your posts because they are encouraging, however, even if it is a bit contradictory, I sometimes read publications that are not.

But I repeat, I prefer to stay with your words.

Now that opinion deserves this publication.

Witnesses can be trusted.

power down of its @steemit account

It's getting interesting isn't it?

I've given up trying to predict what is next - I'm in (I'd be an idiot to quit now, I think) and I give this place decent odds of recovering - but it is a real mess right now and there are a whole bunch of people I can't name but don't trust an inch, with way too much power, so its a wild ride!

It is pretty interesting considering we have one of the most used blockchains in the world yet, the very people using it do not regard it as good as projects that have literally zero usage other than speculative transactions or like EOS seems to specialize in, gambling applications.

Steem was an idea that has evolved from it's original purpose, for better or for worse. Steem is being speculated as an existing platform, with all of its flaws. That is why it is being valued at its current rate - the platform works, poorly, and the promise of SMTs for close to 2 years, with nearly 0 possibility of them being developed at this time.

Other platforms that are being valued higher are not developed yet, but in a working form, they could be groundbreaking -- Steem had its chance to roll out with the same strength, but Steemit Inc tripped over its own two feet and stopped putting value in the Steemit platform which was its bread and butter. Steem is not dead, but a future platform that can quickly monetize significant value for investors with limited interaction is more appealing to investors than placing their money on a uncertain existing platform that's threatening to tear itself apart.

the platform works, poorly...

I use the Steem blockchain everyday, and it works better than the other social networks I'd otherwise use, so I don't agree with your phrase that it is working "poorly".

My favorite Dapps include:

  1. @steemit
  2. @esteemapp
  3. @steeveapp

I love this blockchain and I am an end-user, not just a speculator 😊

Don't get me wrong, I'm still here, and using Steem(it). Steemit is exceedingly better than Facebook or Instagram (you forgot to mention @steepshot!), simply for the reason that it's not run by a big corporation who only cares about monetizing their business.

The poor functioning are the failed hard forks, failed listening to the community (people who are actually active, and not just the people with the largest stake), and failed plans to grow into something other than a successful social network.

There might be some failures but compared to our peers, @steemit and the related Dapps are doing quite well.

And when we hit ATH again and people are like, "OMG no fair I wish I could have gotten in that cheap," we can tell them... no, you don't, because hardly anyone actually did.

It's easy to play the speculation game when you are riding high on the fumes of FOMO. No one will understand the morale level of today during the bull run of tomorrow. I guess you could make the same comparison to when Steem was 10 cents a coin (which is still a completely real possibility for us).

If Steem fell to 10 cents and bounced back to 30 to 40 cents, a person would make 3 to 4 times their money 😂

I enjoy the swings in cryptocurrencies and I like the experience of it all 😁

Living forever is for chumps who think too much of themselves.

Well said chump!! ...erm, I mean, mate!! 😆

I would like steam to go to the Moon as well. There are definite characteristics that would help Propel it that direction. It would definitely benefit all of us. Either way I am prepared. Thanks for sharing @tarazkp
