A photo, a lesson, a recipe

in #thoughts5 years ago

I am a bit bored tonight. I have things to do but for some reason, none of it really tickles my fancy. Because I was forced to get a HBO subscription so as to watch Game of Thrones, I realized there are a lot of shows I once upon a time was interested in but, feel no inclination to watch them. I started one the other night and by ten minutes in was... bored. I remember why I stopped watching.

These days when I am up late (like most nights), the only thing that I am really interested in doing is writing something as it satisfies my need to create, something I hadn't much time to do before Steem came along to take a lot of my time. Time to create is something everyone should make for themselves and it doesn't really matter what gets created. Make a cake, draw a doodle, build a fort out of pillows and blankets. Doesn't matter.

A few moments ago I decided I would try to take some pictures for a post I was thinking of writing and since it really wasn't working, I laid down on the floor to cry. No, not really., I haven't cried for about 30 years. I did lay on the ground though, as I was trying to block the flash from spreading throughout the entire home and waking my wife up.

The photo didn't really work well but, it is something and while I do generally try to add some personal value to a post, I don't know if this is one of them. However, there is something I should mention that came up the other day on one of the 50/50 curation posts that is relevant at the moment, or at least I have noticed it should be for some people.

If you didn't know:

There is a dust threshold on Steem and a post has to get over 0.02 SBD to be paid out and if it doesn't get past that point, the vote will go back into the pool. This means that comments that are under 2 cents in vote value won't get a payout. Check out @dustsweeper for a kind of solution. For those that can and commonly vote on comments, make sure the vote is at least two cents so the author you are trying to support gets a payout.

However, some people think that in order to get curation, the vote has to be over two cents. The rule is that the post has to go over this 2 cent mark, not each vote and the curation will get paid out accordingly. If someone has a vote that doesn't reach the 2 cent, it is probably best to vote on things that will more likely get more support than a comment, such as a post. The curation will payout as long as the post pays out and it is at least 0.001 Steem.

This is more relevant the lower prices get. Helpful?

There are a lot of things to learn on Steem but often, people focus on the wrong areas in my opinion, the areas that don't have that much personal return for them. It is great to spend time learning how to curate well, but if you are voting with 50 SP, you'd likely be better off posting and commenting for earning. For those that do want to learn to curate well, I do suggest joining the engagement and curation leagues (See @abh12345's account) to learn how it works.

Learning aspects of the platform is a very good way to understand the importance of various components of the platform. It is hard to take some opinions seriously sometimes when there are gaps in the knowledge base on basic usage. The understanding doesn't have to be perfect and most of the time a rule of thumb idea is enough but, the rule has to be at least generally correct.

A lot of people get stuck into the details that don't matter that much to their experience here yet miss gaping holes in what does. It is much like most of life in the real world where trivialities getting attended to with force while fundamentals get overlooked by most. I mentioned a few days ago that while people complain about a tax that will cost them a few dollars a year, they ignore the size of their entertainment budget, the increase in cigarette and beer prices, the 20% increase of their Netflix subscription. All of these things add up.

Tonight at the supermarket I made a decision to eat a little better and bought some ingredients to create a smoothie for dinner. I am getting too fat, feeling lethargic and need to do something and, I need to find a way to remove my sweet tooth as it is very influential. After my wife completes her studies totally, I head back to the gym too. The smoothie was really good.

Zucchini
Cucumber
A peeled orange
Fresh Basil and Mint
Turkish yoghurt

Add a little water and blend it up until smoothie-ish. Delicious.

Well I should go to bed, but after writing this I feel like I have done something worthwhile and I am no longer bored. I hate being bored - not because I have nothing to do but because it annoys me that I couldn't think of anything better to do than being bored. At least for those who do read this, there might be something in here that improves life a little. But if not, you just wasted five minutes.

Try the smoothie at least - I made it up myself.

The new engagement league by @abh12345 will be out in about 12 hours. There is also a Minnow league and Redfish league. You can get loads of information there.

Fat I am up to 242 lbs. I don’t look fat, but am told to keep the weight on and another 20 lbs would not hurt. I think thats way to heavy.

I can’t drink a smoothie. Haha

Yes you can. you just need to make it out of bacon and fructose.

I am old school.
It what people grow up with and comfortable with. Crypto will be the thing as time goes on, natural.
It will take a little time and you will be sitting in a good position when your ready to retire.

People wait a lifetime to be comfortable, I have been uncomfortable for most of mine so far, a little further doesn't hurt much more.

I do not know anyone who retires. You just redirect your energy. The same can be said for the struggles we all make. You are going to pay the price now or later. Ether way you will pay. Better now then later.

Very true as vote values will become more important as the price tumbles. Very thoughtful crawling around on the floor with your camera so as not to disturb the wife.Imagine if she had one eye open watching you and what she would have thought lol.

She has eyes in the back of her head...

Raw cucumber and zucchini? Not even with a gun to my head.... what's wrong with simple orange juice? Or if you want to add something, try a bit of vodka...

Orange juice is just sugar... vegetables are better than fruit...

But most importantly - I am a Gin drinker.

These days there is plenty of dust around! @dustsweeper is a great service!

I think I need to add some more steem to it..

Thanks for the reminder about 0.02 SBD curation threshold. I have to vote on comments with a larger percentage from now on.

Thank you for the information on the dust threshold. My guess is most people don't know about it and will appreciate the information.
