Market Friday - Eastern food market
Hi, Steemit!!!
Today is Market Friday and I propose to continue our tour of the Eastern markets in Israel. Today we will go with you to the market to buy food products. Eastern markets are most often located in the open air. Of course, there are canopies from the rain and sun.
The prices are written in big letters, but be careful: small letters usually write this price for 1 kg or for 0.5 kg. If you are not careful, then buy the goods for a price 2 times more expensive than you thought. We came across this more than once :))) Then we laughed ourselves.
It happens that there are no prices on products. This means that either they are expensive, or the price will be different for different people. Now I will explain: for example, the seller is an Arab and the buyer is also an Arab. They speak to each other in Arabic. For such a buyer, the price will be lower. For all other buyers, the price will be higher. One day my husband greeted such a seller in Arabic and said a few phrases. It was evident that the seller was at a loss: he saw that the buyer was not an Arab, but spoke with him in Arabic. In the end, he sold us the product at a price lower :)
By the way, if you've never been to the eastern markets before, then you need to get ready! When we got to this market for the first time, I was horrified by the noise: the sellers and their assistants shouted at the top of their voice, urging buyers and announcing prices for goods and discounts. I left there with a sore head. Over time, I got used to it and did not pay attention anymore.
In these markets I like that you choose fruits and vegetables yourself. The seller will definitely offer you to taste the food and will even try to persuade if you refuse. Israelis taste fruits and vegetables freely - this is normal.
I say to one such seller: "the fruit is not washed".
The seller said: "Just a moment!" And fled to his warehouse of products. He returned pleased with the washed fruit.
They very much like to talk with customers: ask where you came from to Israel , they will say to you: "Welcome!". If the seller liked you then he can make you a gift or a discount on the goods.
My husband and I are very fond of visiting the eastern markets, enjoying a kind of oriental atmosphere, good quality goods and reasonable prices.
Have a nice weekend!!!
FOR #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle
great shots and story
in my travels over the years have seen this type of pricing over and over all depending on who the buyer is the price can be so varied
have a great day and weekend
Thank you! And you also have a great day!
Beautiful post. You've been able to show the atmosphere on the market, it's just like in my market, with the only difference as to me, the price differs not because of the language you are talking about but as you are dressed. More elegant, more expensive!
Hi @tali72 you made me feel as if I was there with you. Upvoted and followed
I am pleased to!
Thank you so much for your amazing post! I love your Eastern Market. Did you know we actually have one here in Washington, D.C. ?? It is called Eastern Market and they even have their own metro stop. No kidding! And Yes!!! They even use those same rules here! eyeroll
I am with @tattoodjay on this one. I have seen this kind of pricing all over. They even do it here in the more ethnic areas like Miami Beach where if you can speak Yiddish - well, you are sure to receive the discount. Anyway... back to your amazing market
Oh, the din of the prices being called to you is one of those things that grows on you, no? :) They sure do go the extra mile to please you and make you become a dedicated customer. If you are lured into becoming one of theirs, word of mouth will bring in more and more.
You pictures are awesome, the story is so well written and explained. I just love it! Thank you again and again for bringing another part of the world into my living room. I find it interesting to see how the other people live and work and yes!! Shop!!
Thanks again! Happy #MarketFriday! Resteemed.
tip!
You surprised me very much, Denise. It turns out our world has become like one big village :))) even you - so far away from us - also have such a market! it's great!!!! But I realized: in your market, we would not get a discount - we do not speak Yiddish :)))
Ha!! True!!! Back to upvote! Finally got a little power back!
Hi @tali72! You have just received a 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!

Het @Tali72 ! i just saw the images you posted here and somehow felt that i familiar with this sort of markets and when i read i got that it wasn't mistake :-))
i love to shoot at the local markets in TelAviv and Jerusalem.
at my blogsite i even have a series with the name "Market madness' - mostly taken in Black and white and less about a food and products but more about the people and atmosphere :-)
Fantastic entry Tali....marvelous market that I would love to visit upv & rsd 😊
You would like it there, Lena! I'm sure that you would be very good at figuring out food products about which I do not know what it is :)
I am sure I would like it, but but I am not sure about figuring out all the products. However, I would love t give it a shot 😊
Delicious fast and not expensive!
помнишь, как ты чуть не сбежал оттуда из-за шума? :)))))
Very colourful...upped
that's for sure!!! :)
