"Friday was amazing. Monday, not so much!" A story about how my post went TRENDING!
I was feeling inspired by my family on Friday, so I wrote an article called 5 Things That Dads With Daughters Should Be Able to Do.
My Steemit profile says "Blessed Husband | Proud Father of 5 Kiddos," and I completely mean it. I am a very blessed man.
While thinking about those blessings, I started writing with two goals: (because to be honest, I have written other articles hoping for lots of upvotes and recognition).
1. Remind myself of how to be a better dad
2. Improve my writing skills.
A few hours after the article posted, I nearly had a heart attack. My post's estimated value was over $270, and it later spiked to over $290. Prior to that moment, I had never had a post that was valued more than $10. This was awesome!
And it would be unfair not to mention @shenanigator. He submitted my post to a curated account, and after it was accepted all of this fun broke loose.
I was really excited, so I shared the news with my wife. It was the first time she had shown interest in Steemit. The night kept getting better!
And then I received the bad news. The price of Steem was starting to tank! (from over $1.80 on July 7 to $1.27 today).
If you are new like me, then you probably did not realize how much the price of Steem impacts your payout.
When the 7 day average price of Steem goes down, then your payout goes down too!
A $290 payout has turned into a $235 payout. Kinda sucks! Steem is dropping like a rock.
And as I write now, I am being reminded.
- I wrote that article for me and my family, so why am I so concerned about the payout.
- And even if the payout continues to drop, at least I am getting something in return for my writing. Not like Facebook offers that!
- My wife still loves me (and now I can talk to her more about Steemit)
- And I am still proud of my 5 kiddos.
Friday was amazing. Monday, not so much.
But life is still good!

Love the post and the perspective you bring! Everything truly begins and ends with family. The price of Steem can definitely make post payouts a rollercoaster, but the good news is Steem's on sale!! :) Keep up the great work!!

I want to keep writing quality content and engage more followers, and the rest will come in time.
Personally, I think the last post exploding had something to do with PIGTAILS. Just the word brings on a smile.
I guess I need to put pigtails in all of my posts and post title. We have just found a new Steemit post viral strategy.
@karencarrens, I always try to write quality posts, but I received a whole lot of help when a more influencial Steemian submitted my post to a curator account called @curie. After it was accepted, then things went crazy (in a good way).
Wow, that's great. I know you put out great posts. I will peek at @curie. Was it a minnow program? Have you heard of @steemitbc? I like really love what they stand for and I am inviting only nice happy people! LOL. I just dropped my last post off to them that I'm partial to because it reminds me of when I was growing up.
From what I can tell, @curie has been around for a while and it is aimed to helped new authors. There are very specific guidelines and they are modified regularly. One important note is that you can not self submit your post to curie. Someone else has to.
I found this information from the curie steemit.chat page:
CS >5, AR >85% - Unlimited submissions
CS >1 to 5 - 15 submissions
CS 0.2 to 1 and new curators - 1-2 submissions
CS <0.2 - 0 submissions
8 ) You cannot submit your own posts.
Finder's fee is 10 Steem per approved post.
You should write a post about how someone submitted yours and it went crazy (in a good way)!
Just popped in on @curie and tested out submitting my last post... ooops, can't. If you wouldn't mind looking at https://steemit.com/animals/@karencarrens/some-texas-neighborhoods-have-squirrels-rabbits-or-deer-ours-had-peacocks and seeing if it would be a good one to submit, I would greatly appreciate it. I kinda like it, but I'm also partial to it. (You don't have to submit me, but I wouldn't mind your feedback!) I am really glad about knowing about @curie because I am always resteeming good content because I believe we should always do our best to promote good stuff.
I might not be the best person to ask about what is good to submit or not. My article was recommended by someone else and accepted. There is an incentive to find good articles - a finder's fee, but as you can see above there rules.
Before that moment I did not know about @curie. I did however chuckle watching your video. Thanks for sharing!
Can I make a suggestion for you? I know you have not said yes, but I will tell you anyway. I would recommend that you take horizontal videos, so that it removes those dark bars from your YouTube videos. For me, I try to shoot all video from my phone like this.
OMG! Just tried it! The black sides always bothered me but I thought it was a setting I needed to adjust! I didn't know that I just needed to turn my phone over to the side... it's obvious now but when you've never taken video before with a cellphone, then...
