Uber loses TFL license in London
In an historic TFL ruling, Uber has been stripped of its London operating licence due to lack of corporate responsibility, it has 21 days to appeal the decision. There have been a number of reports that Uber has not reported serious criminal offences and its approach to criminal checks on drivers is not up to the standard required by TFL.
Amazingly an online petition backing the company at change.org has reached over 400,000 signatures showing just how much support the company has from the general public who find the convenience and low cost of Uber a blessing.
There has been a backlash against Uber since it first came to London from the black cabs, one such black cab driver ex footballer John Sitton @TheRealSitts regularly tweets his disdain for this company, often re-twitting video of crashes and bad driving clips of both mini cab and Uber drivers alike.
This comes just months after the CEO quit over a scandal describing a workplace rife with gender discrimination and sexual harassment. This seems to be a company out of control having grown too big too quickly. Comparisons have been made to Amazon and in many ways the rise of Uber is comparable, however Amazon matured over a longer period and invested a lot into its operations, customer care was very important, so much so that the meaning the customer is always right was taken to new heights.
Can Uber recover from the situation it finds itself now, I think it will, I expect a resolution to be reached where Uber will promise to improve its operations. TFL will grant the licence under public pressure but will have made a statement that Uber must improve.
Uber were a British goverment side project for a war against the London black cab taxi drivers that blew up in their corrupt faces!
Nice post. Certainly an interesting development.
