Deep into the heart of central Africa, settled in a small village surrounded by a rich greenery in form na thick forest.
On this particular evening, the weather was cool encouraging the villagers to get busy with one thing or the other; while the elderly get busy with axing the woods, weaving baskets or sorting the harvests, the little ones merried away enthusiastically.
A young lady in her early twenties carefully cracked the palm nuts open on a small rock. Tendo, being the only daughter of the village head didn't stop from engaging in some mental jobs too. She had just returned from schooling in the city, owing to the fact that the uncivilized area is yet to be exposed to good education.

“KABOOM!!!...”
The sound of the gunshot startled her before she scowled. She cringed at the sound of cheering that came after; and obviously from hunters or gamers.
Almost immediately, she could tell they had successfully gunned down some other animal again and like always, there would be a victory celebration tonight.

Just as she had predicted, there was a bonfire later at dusk. The villagers danced and cheered, in contrast to the specie in a metal cage.
It was almost taller than human and much larger in size; its brown fur was thick, covering almost all parts of its body except the face and in its eyes. A young gorilla, they had captured and fear danced through the orbs of it eyes.

It was afraid. The gorilla was afraid.

Being alone and the noises made by the cheering humans had made it scared of what was going to happen, Tendo could tell.
Her trance was cut off by a few villagers who were carrying someone on their shoulders, her uncle. The man who always led the gamers and has a sick obsession with capturing gorillas. The young lady glared at the hand of the man which was missing a thumb he lost to a gorilla years ago. Since then, he'd always go to the game and capture those species in his own spite and vengeance before killing them or selling them off.

Tendo felt it has become annoying after capturing a couple during her younger years. Haven't he done enough?! Thanks to being educated, she was aware gorillas were endangered species and in a short period, they could go on extinct! She can't even stand it anymore.
She glanced at the caged animal again and shook her head; since they were not mentioning any merchant, then her uncle might be planning to just kill this one again tomorrow morning at the town square. For nothing.

Wee hours of the night came, there were stealthy but steady footsteps in the dark. It trotted fast towards the metal cage from earlier before stopping before it. Light from the moon shone, exposing Tendo's face.
Her lips curled into a sneer as she took in the sight of the gorilla. It was sleeping… like it has resigned to its fate. Sleeping ?? Was it supposed to be sleeping now? She tapped the cage gently and it woke the animal just as she wanted.

“Don't worry. You'll be fine.” She whispered to it. What she was doing was dangerous, but who cares?
She fished out the bunch of keys before unlocking the cage.

“Go” she whispered again to the gorilla.
To her bewilderment, it just stared at its freedom like it was a trap and this raised Tendo's agitation. Time was not on their side, but the gorilla was wasting it! She wouldn't blame it though, it would not trust a kind of which had captured it.

“Come on! Get out and run” she whispered desperately once more, glancing around. This time, it seemed to get the message as it stepped out of the cage carefully and stared at the human’s eyes. Tendo could almost feel its appreciation, but there's no time for this. She pointed at the entrance of the thick forest, feet away.

“That way. Go! Go! Go!”
And on cue, the gorilla dashed away, into the forest as fast as it could.

Yeah. Tendo smirked and heaved a sigh in content as she dropped the keys.
Good riddance!
The animal should go. It should go and meet its fellow gorillas. Or troops

How we relate to wild animals - whether we hunt them, destroy them, coexist with them or give them territories - will have to be scrutinised more often. Cruelty should be excluded; animals are sentient beings and as such deserve respect.

Yes, please.
Even if the specie is not disappearing from the face of earth.
