Downvote: why "people" downvote?
Hello my dear Steemians,
This post is something that I thought to do a while ago, but then thought, just leave it and ignore. Maybe that would just be so but recently while commenting people one of the new user who recently joined Steemit and started posting with enthusiasm was very upset receiving little attention and Upvote but about three downvotes.
I am talking today about the downvotes, without explanation and without reason that is so called: -10% Downvoter
I believe many of you have had already obligatory -10% of Downvote or sometimes with -100% Downvote from very weird accounts that are not posting and only downvoting without commenting anyone. When you look into the account using Steemworld program of @steemchiller you will see that such account downvote about 28-30 users.
The only good thing is that those users usually do not have high Steem Power, that is why their 100% equal to $0.00
Just out of curiosity I thought to look at the details of account and see if there similarity between and indeed found much in common. That is why I thought that there is maybe just one user behind of the accounts. Why? Here are our observation.
The date of creation of accounts:
- Majority of the account were created in December 2019:
There are following accounts we have identified:
- @maaalim, created: 2019-12-16
- @fristul, created: 2019-12-18
- @tutovret, created: 2019-12-20
- @kissteem, created: 2019-12-21
- @lirdin, created: 2019-12-21
- @carlise, created: 2019-12-23
- @togorg, created: 2019-12-25
- @frauki, created: 2019-12-25
- @fezjar, created: 2019-12-25
- @tazir, created: 2019-12-27
And so on...
The pattern who they all following there are 58 identical users:
and these continues for other users.
On and off one of the account give either -100% or -10% Downvote to approximately 28-30 random users. For Downvoter it is no matter who they downvote, they just downvoting every single that they see when they log in. Look at the time, the whole process takes few minutes. That means the user doe not really look into posts.
Seeing all this , our advise to all users, when you see such downvotes on your posts do not be sad it means nothing. You just became a victim of a user who simply wants to spoil our day or maybe to wake up our curiosity. To make us to visit his blog and to get angry by the fact of being Downvoted or maybe to make some of users fed up and leave the platform.
That is why, just do opposite, ignore the Downvoter and keep being active, communicate and enjoy what you are doing.
I think it's something about the fork that happened with Hive and those days of contrast, especially reading the names of the witnesses.
Many of those downvoting accounts appeared exactly around that time 2019 and I can remember a lot of discussion where many of old witnesses were involved, who encouraged downvotes. I believe what we h ave here is very mild version and nothing to compare to real downvote campaign on Hive.
they don't have such big accounts or influence here, which is why i choose to put more focus here despite lots of amazing ppl i got to know moving to hive. The bullies just have too much power there.

Yes, just be aware that there is some annoying stuff happening, luckily that is really random adn without any certain intention.

You are absolutely right that the negative vote does not affect our reward since these users have very little SP, but something if I have noticed since it happened to me, when I had 1 day to expire a publication I received a negative vote from an account I only had 3 Sp and I don't understand why my reward dropped a few cents. by logic these should not happen but did happen.
I can imagine, the smaller users who have small reward and less people who upvoting them, they feel and see it. Like in your case, it is sometimes noticeable on rewards too.
As we progress through the platform, we get used to not receiving much help in our publications, sometimes we are surprised when we see that another user with voting power helps us intermittently, but we have to move on Rome was not built in a single day. We have to go step by step.

Hi Angel, I have noticed that, this is very unpleasant looking at his account he downvotes daily and there is again no patters. Of course to have such user the low rewards posts will be completely smashed.

That of course discourage people. The downvoter is daily active. Is there anything can be done for such abuse?
We have been watching this downvoting account. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to prevent it. Just seems to be someone who wants to cause upset for no cause.
I think these users just want you to be upset or lose interest. The best way to deal with such people is to ignore them. You shouldn’t be bothered by their actions and you should just keep making quality contents.
You are very right, this situation is very disturbing but we can overcome this situation by ignoring them :)

En este caso yo Lo que hice fue silenciarlo desde mi cuenta, y notifique a los representantes de mi país y me dijeron que ellos se encargaban de ese problema. Gee, thanks friend @stef1. It is good that you clarify this, I hope this does not happen to me, or to anyone else, but in any case it is good to know. Because it is sad that someone who strives to do their publication well has a negative vote, because it is an energy and a time that is used, to try to do something respectable. Thanks for sharing this post.

I too, for some time, wanted to make a post on this topic. I am visited almost daily by these downvoters and therefore I am intrigued. I too have lined up dozens of names of these accounts and I too have seen that they have the 3 Witnesses you mentioned in common.Witnesses well known for their activities on Steemit and who are now, thankfully, elsewhere. I think this downvotes is a way of certain characters to remind everyone that they can always come back and take matters into their own hands.
A sort of notice in the mafia mold, we will say in Italy. They are the usual bullying.
Unfortunately, even though many things have improved on Steemit, strange things happen. And not just these downvotes. Ciao Ciao
Dear @sardrt, thank you for your opinion and I apologize for late reply. I agree with you, the users who downvote masses, on some occasion target those where users taking part in Diary games or contest that is supported by the STeemit team. It seems that the number of them going up because every time I see new names and some of them never heard before. You and me remember that horrible time of real downvote "war" and collective targeting. There is definitely some system behind it. Like you I think the things will never be the same like few years ago. I only hope that it remains at least like it is now.

Ah yes, the obligatory "mosquito downvoters."
My husband knows more about this than I do, but it seems it all dates back to sometime in early 2018 where there were some "whale wars" and one particular person got really angry at not being free to engage in a particular type of toxic bot behavior — something to do with "reward pool rape" as I recall — and retaliated by creating literally thousands of accounts and using the initial 15SP Steemit delegation to put downvotes everywhere.
As I understood, it's all completely automated. The three witnesses voted for were chosen only because they used to send 0.001 Steem as a "thank you" for voting for their witness, which would all be funnelled back to a central account.
The point, evidently, was not to actually affect people's earnings, but to contribute to the failure of Steemit by focusing mostly on newer accounts with lower SP would wouldn't understand why they'd been downvoted, feel demoralized and quit.
I'll ask @denmarkguy to come look at your post and fill in the gaps, if you like.

Hi @whitelightxpress, yes, that is exactly what happened and I completely agree with your point. I actually saw that on Hive there are much more real issues and downvoting to return the rewards in reward pools. You know how old Steemit was divided into two camps pro and contra. That is what happening now there too. Currently we do not have such situation here and I hope we will not have in the future.
