우선, 이 암호화폐가 어떤 암호화폐인지 살펴보겠습니다. 캐럿골드코인(Karatgold coin, KBC)은 이더리움 기반 금 예치형 암호화폐입니다. 2018년 1~2분기에 퍼블릭(Public) ICO를 진행하여 1억 달러를 모금한 것으로 알려져있습니다.
캐럿바 사는 금이 예치되어 KBC의 가치가 담보되는 형태이며, 이 금은 마다가스카르(Madagascar)의 포트 도핀(Fort Dauphin)에서 채굴이 이루어진다고 주장하였습니다. 이에 코인데스크 측은 금을 생산하는 광산의 존재를 직접 확인 및 조사하였으나, 그 어떤 곳에서도 캐럿바 사의 금 광산의 존재를 확인할 수 없었습니다.
