Steem Basic Income - Weekly Voting Distribution
Steem Basic Income
Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.
Still Going Strong
We are up to six pools, so your upvotes could come from @steembasicincome, @sbi2, @sbi3, @sbi4, @sbi5, or @sbi6. We currently have 1648 members that have posted within the last 28 days, and many more members that have not. Unfortunately the members that are not posting are not receiving upvotes. There are currently 7518 'shares' in the program, and it grows every day.
Pool 1 accounts voted
There has been a spike in inactivity in the last few weeks. Managing voting power around inactive members is an ongoing challenge. The portion of inactive members has grown to 30%. Some of these actively comment, but not post, so they will start receiving upvotes when we finish our automation project.
We try to redistribute the excess voting power that should go to the inactive members to active members, so that it is not wasted. If voting power gets close to 100%, we do extra self-votes on comments, but we prefer to reallocate to the active members as much as possible. With so many inactive members, we have only been able to upvote 375 of the members in pool 1!

Last week we had a 21.1% self-vote, which is much higher than we would like. Over Easter weekend, there was a big drop-off in the number of accounts posting, relative to a normal weekend. It's been a very difficult week since then. We try to keep voting power from being wasted, and the growth of the program makes it difficult to respond quickly to changes in member posting frequency. Thankfully, automation will resolve those issues and allow us to be less dependent on self-voting as a release valve.
Pool 2 accounts voted
Pool 2 upvotes come from @sbi2!

Pool 2 peaked at 45% of the members in it being inactive, as we were not moving them down to pool 3 until 60 days of inactivity. I have been shifting that down from 60 to rebalance the inactive members more evenly across each pool. Ideally, we will work toward a cap of 30% inactives in each pool, with any excess collecting at the bottom. This will be good for the active members because it will make it easier to focus our voting power on members, even while full automation is not yet ready.
Pool 3 accounts voted
Pool 3 upvotes come from @sbi3!

Since lower pools have lower average shares per member, inactive members have a higher percentage of total shares in the pool, and it becomes even more difficult to manage voting power effectively. This results in gradually rising self-vote as we move down through the pools. Rebalancing to keep each pool at 30% inactives should help here.
Pool 4 accounts voted

Enough said about inactives. I moved the total weight distributed each week back to 8000% so that we can reduce self-voting even further, but it will take some time for all the rules to be updated. Hopefully by the next time we publish these charts, they will be in a status that I'm much more comfortable with.
Pool 5 accounts voted
Pool 5 upvotes come from @sbi5!

We really start to see @dynamicrypto and @dynamicgreentk in action as we get down to pool 5. Each member is capped at 100 shares per pool, so these guys try to reach that cap every time a new pool is launched. They haven't invaded pool 6 yet (just launched this week), but I'm sure that's only a matter of time! As members with more shares move up into higher pools, it makes them the only large members in the lower pools, and that shows up in the charts.
Pool 6 accounts voted
Pool 6 upvotes come from @sbi6!

We launched pool 6 this week to give a place for members that post so frequently that even pool 5 would have them paused. It's a little bit broken right now, as the main admin for @steemvoter is on vacation. We registered the pool for a month of premium, but it hasn't been processed yet. Some of the outgoing votes are being missed because it has more rules than our status allows without the premium registration, and that means we have to do more self-votes to keep the voting power from being wasted.
Once full automation is in place, we will no longer be dependent on @steemvoter services. We can have it skip posts that would have an upvote that is too low to commit to the blockchain, and save the voting power for their next post. So really active members wouldn't have upvotes on every post anymore, but they would still have the same weekly returns, without having to sequester them in their own pool.
That will also mean that we won't have to open new pools until the bottom pool starts actually getting full! That's going to be a positive development as well.
Conclusion
I realize that the high self-voting percentages are going to be seen as a concern for some members. Technically, every active member is still receiving the voting weight that they have subscribed to, they just aren't getting as much extra voting weight from inactive members as I would like to give them. I am working actively to improve this in light of rising inactivity rates. Please be patient with me, as manually rebalancing voting weights is extremely time intensive. Full automation will resolve most of these issues, and it looms on the horizon!
This update was posted to @josephsavage's page yesterday, by mistake. We have updated the charts for this version, and some of the wording and analysis has been edited. If you really want to see how one day changes things, check out that post, too. https://steemit.com/basicincome/@josephsavage/steem-basic-income-weekly-voting-distribution
Enrollment
If this sounds interesting and you want to get involved, or to increase the share of basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:
Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program. You can sponsor any active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.
If you're unclear, please check out our full transaction memo guidelines and then let us know if you have any questions.
https://steemit.com/basicincome/@steembasicincome/steem-basic-income-new-transaction-memo-guidelines
The official currency for enrollment is STEEM. We accept SBD at our discretion (usually when they're very close, or when SBD is stronger) but you do not receive extra value or any partial refund for paying in SBD instead of STEEM. If we choose to accept an SBD enrollment, we accept the entire amount. If we choose to reject it, we refund the entire amount and request you to send STEEM instead.
Steem Creators Conference
We are pleased to have been invited to the Steem Creators Conference in Las Vegas next week. Learn all about it at https://www.steemcreators.com/ Mark your calendars and book your tickets, this is going to be an awesome event! (Look for our name on the registration page to get a $25 discount on your tickets.)
Questions?
We broke down the mechanics for how the program works in the complete overview. You can check your share counts and upvoting weight in our spreadsheet explained here. If you have any questions, ask away in the comments section or join us in our discord channel.
This is Great - So if I send you 1 Steem and the name of a New Steemian do we both receive upvotes on all of our posts going forward ? I just sent you 1 Steem.
I am seeing votes worth $0 on the account I sponsored but none on mine. Is this correct ?
If you sent around the time of your comment, we have not processed that enrollment yet. You will receive a confirmation transaction when your enrollment has been processed.
I think it has been processed since I see votes from @sbi6 on the posts of the person I sponsored but they seem to be worth $0 each. Are we bothe supposed to get upvotes worth some value? Just trying to understand how it works. Do we both get upvotes worth a penny on the next 100 posts or posts for Life?
The upvotes are based on how many shares you buy. 1 share is 1 steem. With only 1 share you get a small upvote percentage over a week. So if your posting several times a day then that vote is spread really thin. If you want it to be worth more you can do 3 things to help.
Hope this helps
Thanks for your help! I know it can be a little tricky to resolve these types of issues when you don't know exactly whether the enrollment had been processed. As you correctly observed a little later, the enrollment had not been processed yet.
Ok... could you check my blog. I don't think I have received anything from my 1Steem so far
You did recieve an upvote from sbi2 at 9%. But you have posted 13 times today let alone all your other posts. You wont get upvoted every time with only one share.
He may actually still get an upvote on every post, but will land in a lower pool with smaller SP so his % upvote will be above the minimum accepted value.
Once we finalize the new automated system, posting frequency won't have any impact on what pool a member is in anymore (except inactive status, which will always have an impact), and some posts may occasionally be skipped as you described.
I have 214 shares and i have upvoted to get 100% bonus. I post 1 to 2 times a day and get an upvotes worth less than 1sbd at the moment. This will grow as steem grows and will be worth a lot more when crypto recovers.
I would suggest you reduce the amount of posts you do and mybe get more shares. This will help.
I did ? Sbi2 ? I could not find it..
The person you sponsored had one share already. Their upvotes were so small because of their posting frequency (57 times in the last week). It's actually a little more than 0 and still adds up to the expected weekly amount as long as they have enough total payout to exceed 0.001.
Your enrollments were not processed until today's batch (in progress), and you will start receiving upvotes after the enrollment is completed.
Ok thanks for your reply. Should I tell them to not post so much ? He is a very prolific artist and very happy to have found Steemit last week,
He should post at the pace he is comfortable with. If he doesn't have an established audience on Steem yet, he may want to slow down and post only his best work, or consider longer form posts where he highlights a few things together (maybe thematically).
There is a prevalent perception on Steem that quality and quantity are inversely correlated. While he is still building audience, having too much happening on his page could actually be harmful to his growth here.
I am not receiving any upvotes at all on my posts. Could you please check.
Your enrollment had not been processed yet. I'm working on that batch right now. When it has been completed, you will receive a confirmation transaction, and then you will start receiving upvotes after that.
We apologize for the delay; enrollments are currently processed manually. A better system is in progress and should be ready for release soon.
Ok... thanks for the update.
@steembasicincome thank you for the kind mention! I dont know, I never really could afford all those shares but I couldnt afford not to get them either! We will see how it turns out as far as filling the pools as they come! I never imagined having this many shares...initially! This program, once you understand the math and spreedsheet better, is clearly brilliant! Lets hope you can manage this as it blows up out of control and as the price hopefully explodes...Thank you for all your kindness, clear communication and really fast responses and yes even your spontaneous knowledge bombs or sarcastic out of the blue ice breakers on our discord! Its like your omni-present!

Not omni-present, but master of the lurk...
Thank you for your continuous support!
Just sent two payments of 1.0 SBD to sponsor my wife @ascendedmonkey
Thanks @steembasicincome this is a fantastic program.
Thank you for the information! For me, this is a new topic, but I start to like it, I will be grateful to Assam if they point out my mistakes, if they were, I think that there were not a few))
cooool, im seeing activity happening from these accounts into my account. So thx for that and I hope we alllll grow together!
I'm glad that your votes are coming in as they should be!
Vote Vote Vote
6 pools, that's awesome. Growing bigger everyday. Thanks for the update. 😎
"If this sounds interesting and you want to get involved"
LOL are you kidding?
It sounds like, at best, a poorly-run shitshow. And at worst, a poorly-run scam shitshow. NO THANKS.
I'm sad that you feel that way, but if that's how you feel, you don't have to get involved. That's the beauty of an opt-in basic income - there is no government taxing you for something you don't support.
You've always been there for me SBI, after every one of my posts, since the day I was gifted a share, and I appreciate it. Thank you. 👍👍
So you 1% upvote my comment with this account, but then 100% downvote me with your (larger) other account. Talk about sketchy! You do realize that all your actions here are recorded for all time in great detail, and will be exposed eventually? Hiding disagreements with 100% downvotes is wrong. You will be brought to account for that, and for your shady "basic income" scam.
I have never downvoted any account for disagreement. I don't know what account you think I downvoted you from, but this is the highest SP account that I have control of. If one of my members independently downvoted you, then I apologize for that, but I have no control over it.
I wish to sponsor someone in homestead community next month. I have one question : when sponsoring do I have to use URL or @ username in memo while sending the STEEM?
@ username is preferred.
Awesome! I love the updates!
Just cosponsored 15 shares with a friend, and we're both anxious to see how it pays off. This is the first major investment I've made in the blockchain cryptoverse. It's major for me anyways lol
Thanks for giving us a try!
The trial has been up til now. Your program is awesome, I was just having a hard time finding someone else that thought so and was willing to spend that kind of steem. To me it was a no brainier. This is a badass system.
I look forward to my daily upvote from SBI, before I was gifted a share, it would take days to reach 0.05 on my posts. Onward planktons!
Good, nice idea ;)
