Practise inspired by Jim Lee

in #art8 years ago

While working I was watching videos of famous artists like Jim Lee sketching demos in public - there's lots of them online, and not just Jim Lee of course, but he's imo the best. He's just amazing, the way he can draw without reference in a few seconds, a couple minutes, it's just mind blowing... just watch. :)

It inspired me to work harder at practise, here's some of it. Targeted and specific and repeated training like this, it's really boring and tedious, but if you keep it up it will help. Other types of training that are more pleasant to do, well, they're also more 'diluted' in the effect they have... it's your choice. :)

So what am I targeting here? I have a special problem with 3/4 view faces, or anything that isn't orthogonal really. Foreshortening is also tricky, and monsters: for me they have a tendency to not be quite scary enough.

I have a long long way to go yet, and actually I'll probably never reach Jim's level. But that doesn't stop me from trying.

Hey you never know, you may get there or at least close enough to be happy :D And better that you're working on it rather than assuming there's no point and not trying at all :D
