SOME AMAZING SCIENCE FACTS #PART-2

in #science7 years ago (edited)

Hy steemers, hope you are all doing good. I am here with the 2nd part of Some Amazing Science Fact series. Lets get started on the go.

Lol, are u kidding ,not definitely It is indeed a fact. Your DNA when uncoiled and stretched can attain a length of about 17 times the distance between sun to pluto.Quite interesting aha?

DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid which carries the genetic information of a living being. DNA is found in almost all living organisms and in some viruses, they are generally found inside the nucleus of every cells.
DNA has a very interseting double helical structure similar to a spiral ladder. It was in 1953 three scientists James Watson , Francis Crick and Fredrick Wilkins figured out its double helical structure which lead to discovery that it could carry biological information. They were awarded with nobel prize in 1963 for their studies related to DNA.

DNA has a very complex highly coiled structure. Each human cells contains 23 DNA pairs and each pair containly nearly 2 million nucleotides. When uncoiled, the length of DNA in each cell makes up an average of 1 m long. There are more than 10 trillion cells in our body , so the total length of all DNA in our body will be over 800 million miles which is about 17 times the distance between sun and pluto. Unbelievable isn't it, the microscopic DNA have made upto the sun indeed.

All humans have DNA structure which are similar by 99% the rest 1% makes so much difference.

It is found that 1g of DNA can store 700 terabytes of data, indeed only few grams of DNA is needed to store the whole data in the world. Still thinking humans are the king?

Humans share 95% similarity in DNA with chimpanzee's.

images (14).jpg

Haha ,that's why you looks like a chimpanzee, just kidding. But more interesting is that your DNA has 50% similarity with that in banana's.

DNA of identical twins are 100% similar.

This fact has indeed lead to loopholes in crime detection and cases are reported in which the culprit has to be set free due to similarity with his twins.

Thats all for today, if u haven't read the first part you can check it out here

Humans share 95% similarity in DNA with chimpanzee's.

Somedays im walking around and think the DNA could e similar ,99,9999%' if i see how lot of us humans are acting. Great post, keep up doing, wanna know more about science facts!

Haha , thanks for your support mate.you can check my previous part and yes indeed more on the way.

Short and informative article @sreevin.

Some really cool facts right there!

My mom was right when she called me chimpanzee :P

Thanks buddy, moms are always correct indeed 😝😝

very interesting and useful information.Appreciate to you.

Thanks mate. Keep connected

Humans share 95% similarity in DNA with chimpanzee's BUT do you know that we share 50% in DNA with bananas ? :) This is a worrying fact :) LOL

Haha, no need to worry indeed, 50% is still left

I don't know of any citation for the banana statistic. It's quoted a lot but where does it come from, and what similarity is being referred to? Genes?

"Some of the things that these genes code for are basic biochemistry:

DNA replication. Transcription. Translation. Catabolism, some anabolism. Lots of DNA metabolism (recombination, repair).

A lot of basic constituents of animal and plant cells are very similar (e.g. most organelles, chromatin, actin/microtubules)

Regulation of the cell cycle, mitosis and everything that is part of that is very similar.

There is a lot more to mention if we would go into more detail."

  • Chris Dinant, Cell biologist

That doesn't at all answer the question. :) It's too general. Of course there are a variety of genetic differences between a banana and a human. My question was pertaining specifically to the 50% number, if its saying that there is a 50% gene similarity between a human and a banana it's likely wrong. As I cited elsewhere, we only share 40% of genes with a drosophila, which is at least an animal. I don't suspect that genetic similarities will be higher between us and a plant, which is further divergent on the tree of life (then is the fruit fly).

As a whole biology is not my strength ... I'm just inquisitive and I've read posts on this topic several times over the years. I also know that in England they use this fact to keep children in biology. I am certain that there is somewhere in the scientific explanation exactly how and why these 50%

I sort of suspect that it's more of a generalization then a truly factual number. The concept is true obviously, but I don't know if the number is precise in this case. However I am not certain as I have not been able to find a publication listing what the number is... :D

So interesting! Thanks!
If you want see my page!

Thanks. Yes indeed, will check urs

Humans share 95% similarity in DNA with chimpanzee's.

5% difference is a lot.

Humans share 40% of their DNA with a fruit fly.

Yes indeed. we humans differ in each other in DNA by just 1% or even lesser, that 1% makes so much difference indeed.

Very much so yes. Even very minute differences lead to drastic biochemical changes from person to person. Its surprising how different we are from one another, considering how very similar we also are. Biology and life in general is fascinating.

Yes it indeed is.

Nice post dude! Keep on Steeming ahead!
