What To Do When You Feel Unmotivated

This morning I woke up to a completely trashed house. We have five kids and we live in a 1100 square foot abode, so after visiting two grandparent's houses for presents and Christmas celebration in the last few days, and then throwing our own present opening ceremony, you can imagine the litany of items added to our living space!! Toys, clothes, opened boxes, and chocolate coin and "coal" foil littered up the living room.

It was as if Santa and his elves stopped at our house and decided to stay there and get drunk!!!

Everyone was still sleeping in the quiet of the early morning and the LAST thing I wanted to do was clean. Negative thoughts and dread waved over me as I scanned my surroundings. Quotes_Creator_20171226_205126.png

I was able to clean this morning, despite how I felt, and I'll share these tactics I applied. I'll give you a hint before hand: IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND!!

When you feel lazy or unmotivated, remind yourself that life is a series of choices. One choice after another. Instead of looking at the task or obstacle ahead of you in it's entirety, make a choice. Choose the first step. If you decide to at least start, often you gain momentum and it smooths out your actions out so you can keep going. I chose to get a bag and start filling it with garbage, then one thing led to another and before I knew it, my living space was clean!!

Replace every negative thought with 2 positive thoughts. You'll need one positive thought to cancel out the negative one, and a second positive thought to gain the upper hand. The positive thought could be remembering something you're thankful for, a Bible verse, or an affirmation to yourself. For example, in my case, I thought, "This is awful, I don't want to do this!" I added, "This will look great when I'm done." and "We really had an awesome Christmas!!" Practice this and it will put a pep in your step!

Nice post @snowpea, we can be our own worst enemy sometimes especially when we focus too much on things. Like you said you just got to do it, I find music helps when I feel unmotivated. I put it on and dance all that negativity away. x

This is inspiring! :) I sometimes get unmotivated in doing something that i needed to do. I always bump in to these self-defeating thoughts that make me lazy hahaha but as soon as i make my first step everything will then follow until I finish my task..
