Fungi Friday - Deadly Galerina and an Amanita
I took a business trip to Washington and found some new mushrooms for #fungifriday by @ewkaw
In the Seattle area it is still warm enough for the mushrooms to be out. Plenty of fog and rain keep the place full of mushrooms almost year round.
After a business lunch meeting I found these deadly galerina marginatas right outside the restaurant in the planter mulch.
My client and coworkers know I am obsessed with mushrooms and knew I would have to document them with a few pictures. These galerinas are a type of honey mushroom with the same toxin that deathcaps have. They can be confused with edible enokitake so you have to spore print to make sure. Deadly galerinas have rusty brown spores while enokitake have white spores. The toxin basically causes liver and kidney damage and takes about two to three days to kill you. Even a tiny dose of these can be lethal if ingested. You can pick them though as the toxin doesn't absorb through skin.
Later on my drive back to the hotel I spotted two amanita shaped mushrooms on the side of the road. They were big. Traffic was bad as usual and as I drove by i sort of spotted a hint of red on top. They might have been amanita muscaria. Happy #fungifriday

So a drive by Shrooming on the last one lol
Nice shots @sketch.and.jam
!DERANGED
Also these get confused for Psilocybe mushrooms by hunters looking for hallucinogenic mushrooms as they resemble and grow in and around them many times.
Their last trip lol. Cubensis is pretty easy to differentiate, also many types just grow out of cow manuer while the killer honey mushrooms need to grow out of wood or wood chips.

You collect several types of mushrooms of your living place. Nice job
These kind are only for viewing, very poisonous.

Three days to kill? Mean little things!!
Yeah at least they aren'y poison to touch. Initial signs are headache and dizziness, if you get to the hospital early enough they can save you. Though only if they know its mushroom poisoning.

they are so fairy and cute, it surprises me in the last picture the contrast of a perfet fairy house against the light of cars :/ Nature will win this round hopefully
Cute but very deadly lol. I wish I could have gotten out of the car for a closer shot.

I never collect mushrooms to eat they're cute, but I recently fell for the temptation and I picked some big juicy ones I was "assured" were not toxic, my friend told me all the yummy recipes and well I picked just a few thinking I will make photos in green screen for the videos and such. I cooked them and then I felt the urge of asking a second opinion... thanks god I did not eat them cos it looked like the edible one but I would not have died but have had a bad trip to the toilet hahaha XD
I bet it was a type of bolete right? Many have to be parboiled to get rid of the toxins first. So far in all my wild mushroom adventures i haven't gotten sick. But you definitely need to do alot of research and when first trying a new mushroom only eat a tiny bit first just in case you might be allergic or run into a lookalike. Also research all the deadly ones and know their characteristics.
Well spotted on the amanita. I'm a little obsessed with mushrooms too. 😋
I had a book on them years ago but lost it somehow.
We have woodlands nearby so I may go foraging at some point.
There's quite a few interesting ones in your region, good weather for growing. I just saw this documentary recently

you have a sharp-shooter eye for fungi -- which is great!
love this shot, it has very sympatico shroom at the lower part of the pic.
They call to me from the ground.
