Here's a continuation of last #butterflyday by @whatisnew where I found a tiny little mantis eating an ant near a crab spider.

Here's the little guy eating the ant. Its maybe about 2cm long at this point. Note the aphid in the lower right.

I came back to the same area this week and found this guy. I'm not sure if it is the same mantis or if this is one of the little guy's siblings. Now its about two inches long.

Here he is trying to hide and act like a stick.

Of course I had to pick him up. At this point its wings aren't fully developed yet so flying away isn't possible. See the little eye pupil dots focusing on the camera?

It just sat there wondering what sort of new plant had picked it up.

Later I found this garden spider. I can't remember the latin name but this is a fairly common spider that makes webs between leafy undergrowth.

I also found one of the last summer cicadas barely surviving. Its getting too cold for them now.
