Twenty Goals For 2020.....
Afternoon everyone.....
I have done a few posts on goals and setting up a #twentygoals tag for anyone that who is interested in joining in.
As I’ve stated I do not believe in resolutions at all, to me that means that you have failed at something and are trying to undo your mistakes.
My goals are very thorough and more then just a simple thing written down. Not that goals have to be elaborate, it’s just the way I am programmed.
In an effort to keep these posts interesting and give you information as to why I’ve chosen them. Today’s post will contain five of them. There is no particular order that I am using, these are the twenty goals I have set for myself.
First Goal
Start a new business venture
Most of you are aware that I am an owner/operator of a cabinet and furniture business. I have been in this business for nearly 30 years now. The business has become very cutthroat and with the Chinese cabinets being so cheap and cheaply made its impossible for me to compete with them. People are aware of the quality difference of my handmade quality, but many have said if they last five years then I’ll buy new ones again.
My cost of materials keeps going up and with competition out there my profit margin is getting smaller and smaller. I’m working twice as hard and netting less money.
I see the writing on the wall, and while there are still people that want quality it’s becoming less of a selling point.
I have a few different business ideas that I have mapped out and think that they will work. Unfortunately they will require backers in order to get them going. I will not do partners ever again, I lost over 100K in a partnership already which cost me my entire coin collection.
Backers are investors of your company looking for a good return on their investment. If they like the concept and think it will work they get a set percentage of the profits.
Second Goal
Take a Vacation
Being a sole owner operator of a business I have not been on a vacation in over ten years now. In the last four years I’ve only taken three complete days off of work period.
My focus is ensuring that my daughters college education gets paid for.
I don’t know if this goal is even within my grasp this year but I’m going to try.
Third Goal
See a Doctor
Please don’t take this one out of context. I am not sick, well not that I’m aware of anyway.
I will turn 50 this year in May. There is cancer in my family, my father has had three different bouts of cancer, he is still alive god willing. He has had throat, prostate and a melanoma in his eye. He’s also had two TIA strokes and stints put in his heart. He has been in full remission from cancer for over 15 years now.
I haven’t had a physical, blood work or any form of check up by a doctor in ten years now. While I don’t expect any bad news, I should get myself checked. I pay for the medical insurance I mind as well use it.
Fourth Goal
Fitness
Twelve years ago, I lost a little over 100 pounds in a calendar year. I have maintained keeping 90% of it off since losing it. Even with the crazy busy schedule of work I was hitting the gym three to four times a week to lift. Well that hasn’t happened much since August.
I have set goals for specific lifts to measure my overall strength. They are:
Bench Press 350 pounds
Deadlift 480 pounds
Barbell Squat 350 pounds
Barbell shoulder Press 180 pounds
All of these goals are a minimum of a 15% increase from where I was in August. They will not be easy to obtain, but can be achieved if I put in the work and do not get injured.
Fifth Goal
Write a Cookbook
This is something that I’ve always wanted to do. I have a culinary degree which I never actually used as a career. I put myself through culinary school in 1989, I was a union carpenter at the time and there was no “Food Network” back then. The starting pay was horrible and no benefits at all.
I Have enough recipes to write a series of cookbooks all with my own spin on them. I have also done many different eating styles that I could do specific books such as keto (which is very popular right now).
While I am not a star or master chef to make any money on this, it will probably take a miracle to get a publisher to publish it even.
Who knows, I still want to make it happen.
What do you think so far?????
Is there anything that you would like more information on?
Awesome goals, agreed.......turning 50 will put your mind in a different prospective, you feel great but age has a way of changing things. I would add one......develop at least three passive income streams to replace your current income. Getting checks in the mail for past investments puts your mind at ease once you near retirement age without having to depend on a government type pension.
AWESOME GOALS! Each one of us can adopt those, for sure!
I am a day behind posting, bestie! Later tonight or tomorrow, I shall share common goals as well!
Take care, bestie 🥰🌺🤙
I am like you about making new year resolutions
Not a big fan... But goals is another thing and they are Great to have to keep us going 😉👍
And I think your goals are healthy and good ones and I know you can do it, I have faith in you my friend 🤗
The cookbook is a fun one and I hope you get to share your recipies with us all 😋 meaning saffisara gets the first signed ex of the book 😁 LMAO
Also love the goal with vacation... YES... YES that is a MAKE IT HAPPEN goal.
Growing up with a dad owning his own Driving school, I know The many Hard working hours he had to spend there and on free days and he had such a Hard time taking a break.
We all need fuel and recharge so you need to give yourself permission to take a well deserved break.
I have a few goals to and hope I get to make it happen... NO.. What I meant is... That I WILL make happen 😜 lol
Great post my friend and Thank you for sharing. Much love and squeeze hugs 🤗🥰😘🤗
You can totally self publish your cook book via Amazon there is also a site a bit like Shutterfly where you can make books. I forget the name at the moment.
These goals all sound super substantial. Like each is so big they might detract from completing any.
I suggest the easy stuff first.
Good luck.
Also super impressed with the 100lbs in a year. Dang!
I've got write a book on my things to do.
I'm a little impressed if yours thinking of benching 350lb, that's like 25st?? Are you a body builder??
Not a body builder but I’m pretty dam strong. I was an athlete all my life. I had a college scholarship for football. Well till i blew out my knee and broke my collarbone in two spots.
When i stopped lifting in August I was benching 305 three times. I can get there if I work at it.
They are all excellent goals my friend!
I'm not sure how they should be numbered....but taking care of your health is up at the top!!
I think your third goal should be the number 1. If you are healthy, all the others are achievable. If not...
