Dust and Dustsweeper
This is a report on a service on Steemit called DustSweeper. DustSweeper solves a problem called “dust”.
The Problem
There is a minimum amount of either author or curation reward that a post or comment must earn for you to get paid. If your rewards earned are less then 0.020 you don’t get paid. Those rewards are called “dust”. There is a solution called “dustsweeper”.
The Solution
“Dust sweeper” is a bot; A bot is an automatic computer program which performs a function or carries out a transaction. If you pay the “Dustsweeper” fee, the “dust sweeper” ”bot” checks each of your post author rewards, your curation rewards and your comment rewards on day # 6 and if any are less then 0.02 and it upvotes them enough to get paid. This eliminates the “dust rewards”.
How to start
Send 1 Steem to @dustsweeper
Put your Steem account name or the account name of the person you wish to give Dustsweeper to in the memo line.
Maintenance
When your funds start to run low you will get a memo from Dustsweeper and you can send 1 Steem or amounts smaller then 1.0 Steem to keep it going.
My experience
Dustsweeper works to eliminate loss of dust rewards. Dustsweeper is also profitable. I pay 2 Steem to Dustsweeper.
2.0 divided by ten is 0.2
2.0 divided by 100 is 0.02, which is the dust threshold.
2.0 divided by 200 is 0.01.
Which is the average amount Dustsweeper adds to dust rewards to boost the reward over 0.02 so you get paid.
Dustsweeper makes 200 payments of 0.01 to your reward of 0.01 to boost it to 0.02 or greater.
You now collect 200 posts of greater then 0.02 at a cost of 200 times 0.01.
Dustsweeper basically gives you a 100% profit.
I think it’s a good investment.

I wonder how the changes in Curation impact this.

I think that since author rewards will be smaller, the need for this type of service will be greater. The increased curation may also help sustain the project, but the impact of the linear rewards modification may be the factor that determines if it continues..
I read somewhere that if you make a blog post and it gets more than 20 Steem in upvotes, one would actually get higher rewards than with the old system. So I did a test with some bots, getting to more than 50 Steem in upvotes for one post. My pay out was only about 22 Steem of the 50 Steem pay out. Under the old HF I would have gotten about 35 Steem for that.
I have read that several places. But I haven’t actually tested it. Sorry to hear it didn’t work. Did you get any downvotes for using Bots?
