Artist DO Make Sales!?!? I know, Right?

in #originalworks8 years ago

There is nothing new about me meeting other artists in my travels. It is something that comes with the "job" even if one goes to great lengths to avoid it. If I wrote about all of them, I could have endless material and never have to think for myself again. For that reason, I don't usually write about other artists but, the circumstances around this artist reminded me that there is balance in this Universe that seems chaotic and unfair to most of us.

I met artist, Taylor Jade, while she performed her actual "job" as a barista at a local coffee shop in Steamboat Springs. (Steemboat?) Her story is a uniquely positive one, as she sold 2 of her pieces online while I was in line to get my morning Caffeine fix. I should probably mention that this artist had gone through a similar experience to my own by losing their vehicle and becoming "stuck" in a town that doesn't always like it when visitors linger too long.

The fact that this artist sold her work online right at a time of great need was something of a catalyst to keep me going in my own endeavors. The greatest thing an artist can do, whether intentional or not, is to inspire others not to give up on their passions.

Plus, she provided a valuable piece of evidence. You can sell art online. If it happened once, it will happen again, right?

Awesome, I will when I think of some.

Ha! Excellent positive piece about another soul, especially when you are personally dealing with hardship. This attitude will certainly help you with your ascent to artistic greatness. And excellent art. I'm sure we can get you a sale. But I think you should take heed of @friendly-fenix's advice about starting out with prints on the street instead of originals. That kind of activity will lead to online sales. ;)

Hey guys!

Nice article @shaman-ra, I can relay to what you are saying in this article, I understand that it can be tricky to mingle with other artists, there is a lot of envy, ego and competitive people. You did a good job showing us the work of Taylor Jade, nice to hear her story, and that things improved for her.

It's my opinion that artists of different kinds need to collaborate on many levels and lift one another up, otherwise its just becomes like "crabs in a bucket", and almost no one "makes it" and the ones that do make it don't really look back to help their old "friends"...

I think that selling prints in the street is a good idea,( if you are working in the street anyway), one could connect it to some kind of simple etsy/paypal/crypto webshop also (I guess that would be smart, but that might be hard to maintain if you are "on the road"?)...

I had a friend who was selling incense-sticks on the street in Mexico city, (kind of like an alternative to begging I guess), but people bought tons of incense-sticks (he claimed), and he said that if hadn't wasted all that money in order to get wasted he would have been quite rich...

I figured selling prints could work in a similar fashion, if you a frenetic enough, it could probably work very well... People don't mind spending a small amount on something nice.

And like @artopium explained, it is not impossible that they go home and order an original online later?

Best of luck!

Great initiative @artopium!
I liked "Nature Takes Over A City while Lincoln Realizes He is Wired into The Great Circuit-" looks like there is a hidden text or something in the picture, I also liked those neon pine-trees.

Does www.artopium.com sell @shaman-ra's art?
Are these pieces in storage somewhere?

/FF

@friendly-fenix, it's @shaman-ra who does this shipping direct. Artopium just handles the transaction via paypal.

And then @shaman-ra gets crypto or paypal or something hopefully?
😂

Yes! Of course! Paypal for now but working on crypto soon. :)

Excellent!

Yeah, @friendly-fenix, that piece you speak of, if you turn it to the right side, the green part looks like Abraham Lincoln made out of money, lol. Thanks for enjoying my work! I should have some new drawings on here soon. I just to photograph that one that Taylor bought from me yesterday. I found that selling my drawings helps when no-one wants to buy the paintings. I got this, mang.

I am mostly trying to sell the two originals I have on hand so they don't get ruined by the weather, @artopium. Plus, I will need a big sale to get myself mobile again. These $20 here and $40 here days don't add up quick enough. I was thinking about getting a bicycle and cart or possibly a van if I can find one for around $1000 that isn't a total POS.

Yeah. I'm talking big picture shit and you're just trying to solve a certain problem. I hear ya. Get a gas powered bicycle. Can probably find one for around $200 or so, or you can even make one for that much. Or you can buy a 33cc gas powered scooter. I had one of those for a while. Gets around really well and you don't need a license or registration or insurance. ;) And if you're clever you could take it just about anywhere, but it would require maps and planning. ;)

I was thinking about that.

I will need a better income though, I only make $$$$ 2 out of the 7 days I am on the street.
