Wood Burned Art: Golden Fox (#Club100)steemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Hello everyone. I failed to get a post in yesterday because I wasn't feeling well and slept half the day but I am better now and getting back to it. Not only that, but I ran out of the sealer I typically use, the store was out so I grabbed an alternative and it went milky on the piece I am about to display, grumble! Clearly not a great day. Here's hoping I can salvage the project and today is better.

Below are a few process pictures to show progress. As always, I begin by overlaying my sketch onto the wood then burning the basic outline before I begin to shade and do the freehand, detail work. Using a masking fluid to cover the fox, I then painted the background with a shimmer black watercolor. The sun/moon was created using an adhesive and bonding gold foil to it, which is scraped down smooth. Finally, the stars in the background were all painted with acrylic ink.

The next step is when everything went wrong. This is when I would use a special spray to lock in the color before applying the sealer; If I don't, the colors can smear. Sadly the material didn't work as advertised like my normal stuff and caused a milky haze randomly throughout the piece. Several smaller ornaments I made were also ruined.

Thanks for checking out the art and giving me a chance to vent about some of my crummy day. Follow for more art projects. Check out my social media sites and my Etsy store below.

This is so freaking beautiful! How do you do that linking your Etsy shop on here? I wanna do this too :)

Thanks so much for enjoying! Everyone keep liking my stuff so I can keep enjoying making it! Haha. Now, on to linking the picture.

You are basically just making a link like normal but instead of text, add an image in the normal fashion. Can't believe I even remembered this was possible or how to do it but, if you follow this link, it takes you to the "editor" version of the post so you can see all the code used for yourself!

You can do that for any post by replacing the "it" in steemit.com with a "d", so change "steemit.com/the-rest-of-the-url" to "steemd.com/the-rest-of-the-url". Good luck and let me know if it worked!

God that sounds complicated but I’ll try lol
And yeah it’s wonderful nice to see many talented ppl coming back to or finding steemit I can’t wait till more individuals hve their own steem to vote with rather than having to just rely on a couple of people to throw hand outs. It’s much nicer when it’s actually community to community

An interesting combination of burning, paints and foil. The basis was an uncut birch board?

The canvas for this is a prefabricated slice of basswood from Michaels. Here is a link. I then sand it lightly and that's it for prep.

I can work with rougher cuts of wood as well, I just need to sand it more. The basswood from the craft store works great and is lightweight though, which makes for much easier shipping. I have a large and heavy oak slice sitting around drying out that I want to make a tabletop out of someday.

How many processes! To be so beautiful. It seems to me that there are quite a few such woodworkers left. How long does it take you to make one of your creations?

That depends on the size and, even more so, the complexity of the piece. Total work time for this piece was probably 6-8 hours. If I redo the piece I can probably get a little more efficient. I keep a stencil for most projects so I can recreate them if needed, or make variations.

Someday I would like to do that part of the process digitally so I can scale it to different sized pieces. I'm not well acquainted with digital art though. I plan on adding it to the repertoire someday though.

Beautiful work; sorry you had a problem with the finish. I paint on stones, and the same holds true there... you have to be very careful with the finish coat, or the design colors will run together.

That's why I use the UV resistant gloss. You spray it on lightly so when I seal the piece, the colors don't get messed up. The brand I normally used was not in stock several times I was at the store so I used an alternative brand that, by description, should have worked the same. It didn't and ruined my pieces. Now I have a few cans of the normal brand I use on order and I am going to remake the piece. Very frustrating but what can you do. Perhaps you could use the same method for your stones?

This is the one specifically: Krylon UV Resistant Clear Gloss. You can find it cheaper on Amazon no doubt.
