Shapes Of Lake Tahoe - Photographed From My Kayak
I found this interesting scene while kayaking with my camera early one morning before sunrise. I really liked the circle in front with the big triangular boulder in the back. Hey, if you're a fan of triangles... check out @killerwhale's triangle #killerpix contest going on right now. This photo is an entry.
These boulders can be found near the California/Nevada state line on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. I shot this handheld from my kayak with a Canon 5D Mark II and a 24-105mm lens set at 55mm. A flash with the power decreased was used to light up the boulder in the front. The ISO was 800, the shutter speed was 1/250 second, and the aperture was 4.5. Usually I prefer to use a smaller aperture when shooting landscapes in order to get a better depth of field but when shooting handheld on a wavy lake, the wide aperture was my best choice so I could keep the shutter speed fast.
Thank you for looking and reading!

WooHoo!!! Thank you Tomas! I slept in and made the family bacon and pancakes, but here now and heading to that post. Cheers!
Really cool shot! I love the juxtaposition between the circle and the triangle!
Thank you Iris! Yup, I thought the contrast between the two was pretty wild when I found it.
Beautiful! You know I like rocks ;-)
this one is quite interesting and almost
reminds me of a ancient marker. I wonder
what it looks like at night with stars 🌟
Kinda see faint little / / \ \ hash marks
mid left on the foreground rock.
Ooooo a triangle contest you say :-))
Rocks ROCK!!! I've been out there at night but it would be tough to get a decent shot as a tripod would not be possible here. Good luck if you enter the triangle contest!
Rocks Rule oh yes they do, glad you agree! lol
Yeah I guess it would take one them extra long
legged tripods hehe
Looking again at your photo I thought SHARK!!
Like a big dorsal fin :-)
Thank for the Luck!
Not a shark, it's a whale! Here's the triangle rock from the side :)
Now that is cool! amazing how the look
morphs from the other side! Even has a
eye, mouth and a perfect wave over the
back! Most excellent!!
Enjoying your rocks :-)
Haha, will do, you too!
