Get Ready For Drones Delivering Your Food

The current generation is perhaps the most comfortable generation in the history of humans and all of that is because of the immense technological innovation that have happened that directly affects human life.

In almost every area, we have seen tremendous progress that have augmented various aspects of our lives, be it transportation, communication, health, food, education, work, or anything else.

Just take a look at all the services we enjoy today, that we don't even give a second thought about, that would look nothing less than science fiction to the previous generations of people in a time not too long ago.

Take food delivery for example. Today you can order anything you crave for and it arrives within 30-40 minutes at your doorstep from your favourite restaurants. If you think this is "meh", wait till food delivery is reinvented with drone deliveries!

Drones Delivery

There are two things about aerial transport that trumps ground transport. It's a lack of traffic and the ability to go directly from point A to point B without having to take right or left turns.

This allows for faster transportation and while we have yet to figure out how to do that with humans, it seems like we have pretty much figured out how to do that with small packages that can be carried by drones.

Uber Eats is reportedly set to run a pilot program of food delivery with drones in San Diego, California and they are starting off with McDonald's. Yes, you can now get a big mac delivered to you by a drone! Uber would partner with more food chains in the future, depending on how successful the pilot program is.

Initially, it seems like drones wouldn't be able to deliver right at your doorstep, which is understandable as the company needs to get everything right before they can precisely do that. For now, the food will be delivered to special landing zones, from where an Uber courier will pick it up and deliver it to you. So, right now there is only a partial transition.

It could still take years for drone delivery to become more widespread and mainstream as different companies like Amazon and Google try to figure out the best possible way to do this but in my opinion, it's a nobrainer that drone deliver of food and other stuff will be a way of life in the not too distant future.

Thanks for the interesting post. I recently noticed an Uber Eats sign on the McDonald's in my area. It will be interesting to see if drone delivery of food catches on. You made good points about the advantages of straight-line flight and avoiding traffic delays.

I included this post in my recent article, Interesting Links: June 14, 2019, and set the beneficiary rewards so that you'll receive 5% of that post's rewards.

Yeah, drone delivery could have some great advantages and it's the only thing right now that can further improve food delivery. Will be interesting to see how things play out. Thanks for featuring my article :)

Nice post. Maybe there will be a day in the near future where we won't even have to choose what food to order: after using a food delivery service long enough, an AI will know that you like ordering McDonald's on thursdays and will suggest you what your dinner should be. You will come home from work and your food package will already be waiting for you on your doorstep. Some will find this absurd, i think it's more than possible given the huge spike in AI research going on right now.

Oh yeah, this is definitely possible, even right now. The digital assistants like Siri and Alexa are already equipped with features that allow them to monitor our activities and suggest them at particular times.

Thinking about it scares me and intrigues me at the same time.
