Douglass had always been a careful and meticulous employee. He took his work very seriously and had never once forgotten to complete a task or schedule an appointment during his five-year tenure with the company. After all, he assisted the owner of the largest Otherworlder management company in the country. Attention to detail was of vital importance. So when he found himself face-to-face with one of the most deadly Otherworld races, who insisted they had a scheduled meeting with the boss, he was understandably surprised.

"I'm afraid I don't have a record of your appointment with Ms. Luciani," Douglass said, trying his best not to look into the guest's eyes. To do so could cost him his life. "And I'm afraid she's out of the office at the moment."

"Appointment," they hissed, slamming a scaled fist onto the smooth, marble counter. "Scheduled two months ago!"

"I'd be glad to find a resolution for this issue," he said, using polite language to mask his panic. "If you would like, you may have a seat in our lounge area while you wait."

They hissed once more, uttering an insult in their native tongue, before stalking over to the lounge.

Douglass picked up the phone and dialed the Workers' Resources department, letting out a small sigh of relief when they answered after the first ring.

"Workers' Resou--"

"I have a guest here, a Devourer, who is insisting they have an appointment with Ms. Luciani," he said, interrupting the manager on the other end. "I have no record of this appointment and she is currently out of the office. If you have any thoughts on how to resolve this matter, please let me know."

The silence on the other end of the phone wasn't encouraging. He hoped that today wouldn't be the day that his job finally killed him.

Note: This one was much more difficult than I had expected! I was definitely over my 5 minute limit and had multiple interruptions while writing, but I'm pretty happy with the result nonetheless. I hope you enjoy the story!

Well done with a difficult prompt.

Thank you! Your story was good as well. :-)

It was a strange prompt, so great story. I like it a lot.

Thank you! It really was a strange prompt, even though it didn't seem it at first. I felt like I could only work it into a business or university setting and it seems business won out this time.

Soooo much story in so few words! I'm impressed. Great job!

He hoped that today wouldn't be the day that his job finally killed him.

LOL, literally killed him... nice!

That was intense, but I think that I would have called Ghostbusters lol. 😏

That is a very well written story, nice work! 👍 🙂

I don't know... I don't feel like commenting "well written" or "well done" . In fact I truly enjoyed your work!! It was clear and the sentence's structure is great. Plus I share your kind of humor.. your story reminds me of one of my freewrites ..Followed you. Are you from UK? 🙂

Thank you! I'll have to look at your freewrites. :-)

And no, I'm not from the UK.

My question was related to your writing style ..not anglosaxon then. . sorry for my curiosity 😉

I enjoyed reading this, thank you! You've created this company out of nowhere and now I want to hear more! Poor Douglass! He should try to find a new job if he survives the day!

Today I'm stepping in for Marianne.
