Achievement 2 Task: Basic security on steemit. Mentored by @cryptocannon 29th May 2021.
This stage of achievment is to equip and sensitise newcomer's of steemit on the intended purposes for the various keys generated by steemit. Keys are very important tools one could carry. You may not access an opportunity you don't have the appropriate key to.
Which is why there is the nessecity for the uniqueness of every key to provide solutions to restrictions, and most importantly safeguarding one's interest against unauthorized agents.
In the case of steemit, this social platform works on a Blockchain, meaning the operations of each entity on board is highly autonomous. Thereby, allowing its users the privilege to be solely dependent and responsible for their accounts. Hence the need to maintaining a higher standard of security is paramount.
Steemit consists of the following key types, they include:
Posting key:
- Posting of content
- Comment on others post
- Editing of posts
- Voting on others post/comments
- Resteeming and following of accounts
Active key:
The active key is most often centered on transactional and exchange purposes. Active keys come to place when one wants to engage in the following
- Powering Up and powering down of transaction
- Converting steem tokens into other forms.
- Transfering of funds and placing market order.
- Voting for witnesses
Owner key:
It may be defined as a rescue our contingent key to the other keys including itself. It is said to be the most powerful since it carries the ability to or reset other keys and the owner key itself. It can be used to recover a compromised account at https://steemitwallet within 30 days.
That is why it is highly necessary to store it offline in both hard and soft copy. Even though all key are very important and has to be keeps very safe.
- It's intended sole purpose is to recover a compromised account.
Master password
The master password is used to generate a document for the other key including the Owner key also. Due to its significance, we do not have to share with anyone. Because of that, I have saved my documents offline and have also intend making printouts in other not to loose it.
Memo key:
This key is used for encrypting(ie.transforming information to an unrecognisable form) and decrypting(ie.accessing the original content of an encrypted information) of memos when transferring funds. In order to encrypt a memo, we use the pound/# sign before it.
TRON Public Key
It is used for transfers. The public key is the address tokens are sent through.
TRON Private Key
It has the highest authority on TRON account. It is used for signing transactions of TRON, such as transferring tokens, freezing and voting
First login to your account with your username and your posting key.
Go to your profile and click on "Wallet"
Click on you available amount of steem with a drop down symbols at the end.
Locate "Power Up" from the drop-down menu and select it
An input box will appear, enter the amount of steem you want to use for your power up within the range of your steem balance
Confirm the details of your transfer and click "Ok" when all is right
Finally, go for the Active Key from your keys and insert into to the input box below your user id and select "Sign In"

In your wallet select your preferred fund you want to transfer, be it steem or steem dollar by clicking on corresponding Amount/balance the right.
A drop down will appear, select "Transfer" from the list of element available
A mini window will pop up, carefully fill out the details by correctly spelling the receiver's username right beside the input box at the "To" section. Do same at the Amount section by inputting the amount of steem you want to transfer. It should also be within the range of your balance
Confirm the details of your transfer and click "Ok" when all is right.
Finally, insert your Active Key and select "Sign In"
