My First Order on Homesteaders Co-op!

in #money6 years ago

Hey there it's Idyllwild here...the flower-growing, natural dye-ing half of @sagescrub.

In case you didn't know, awhile ago that we joined forces and are now both co-writing under @sagescrub. However, we realize that it can be a bit confusing to read from two people, especially since we have such different interests and one of us is male and the other is female (guess which is which haha), so I'll do my best going forward to add my moniker to my post so you'll know which of us is posting.

Soooo today I'm sharing some exciting news: I made my first sale on my Homesteaders Co-op store!!! Hooray!!!

The first picture is the bandana I sold. I shipped it just yesterday and because it's going international, it should take a week or so to arrive.

You might be thinking, ok so, you made a sale, what's the big deal? It's a big deal because Homesteaders Co-op is a brand new global ecommerce platform that accepts STEEM, SBD, and just recently, USD! It's a total game changer for Steemians because we now have an online marketplace where we can transact in multiple currencies in a fast, seamless, and secure way.

ALSO, and this is a biggie, Homesteaders Co-op does NOT charge commission or any other "transaction" fees to vendors or buyers. Does Etsy do that? Does Ebay or Amazon? NO. So what I made from this transaction was 100% paid out to me directly in STEEM. Likewise, buyers are also NOT charged transactions fees or credit card fees when they purchase in STEEM or SBD.

These little fees might not seem like a big deal, but when you multiply that by the billions of transactions they make daily, that adds up to A LOT of power for those companies. Unfortunately, they are not using that profit for good. They are using it to harness the information they gained about you in order to better market and advertise more products to you. It's a very smart and insidious hamster wheel.

So, here's the difference between that system and an alternative model.

Because I was paid in STEEM, I have multiple options on how to use my STEEM:

  • Cash out in USD
  • Keep it in Steemit and power it up
  • Use my earnings to buy from other vendors and reinvest in our community
  • Save it and then cash out later when STEEM goes up

OK... so now do you see the power of transacting in STEEM? What we're doing is, well, voting for our community, for our freedom and for our privacy.

So, thank you @stortebeker for choosing to buy a hand-dyed bandana from a homesteader and supporting our livelihood. Thank you for choosing to shop on a small ecommerce website that supports ethical goods over a large corporation that glorifies profits and monopolization. Thank you for believing in a better world and joining us in making that world possible.

P.S. I love this picture because not only do you see the gorgeous Oregon countryside in the background but also the reality of homestead living in the foreground complete with chainsaw, greasy gas can, canning pot, and chopped wood.
