Mauritius Island Vacation!!

If you read my post South-Africa to Mauritius you would know that my wife and I traveled to Mauritius for a well deserved vacation. On our first morning we woke up to the great view from our room as shown in the top photo. On our first day we did not do much, we just relaxed at the hotel. The water around the hotel really is beautiful and very clear.

Mauritius is surrounded by a reef, thus there is almost no waves close to the beach, you can see the foam of the waves breaking on the reef deeper into the see.

We had some nice drinks almost on the beach, I went for a green island rum and my wife had a cocktail, called "Planter", we were taking it real slow, island style!!. The photo below could have been from the travel brochure!!

In the next few photos, you can see the lounge area, which is really open in true island style!!

The lounge area has a high thatch roof with beautiful lights suspended from the roof.

As you can see the sitting area is almost in the sea!!

The beach where we are staying is rather narrow, with some thatch umbrellas and beach beds all along the shore - nice!!

In the afternoon I went for a long stroll along the beach to get an idea of what the rest of the area looks like. All you need here is your swimming trunks, that is how I like it, nice and casual.

The next few photos as well as the video at the top, I took on my stroll along the beach.


There are quite a lot of broken coral on the beach, this is a close up photo of the coral lying along the beach, at places.

This is another hotel, I came across while walking.

Our hotel is in the vicinity of where the parasailing is taking place. (Left hand side of the photo below.)

I don't think this boat will do much fishing anymore, the hole in the side will leak to much, but it did make a nice photo.

Back at the hotel, I visited the beach bar again to sooth my thirst after the long walk.
