Circles (Photo-fiction)

Dark are her words tonight
For dark is her soul
Just like this night
Only she has a moon to light her way...

The words are alive with the sound of music...

She was floating in the air
Light and transparent, just like the white dress she was wearing.
She felt such freedom having taken that leap.
At first she was afraid.
Kept thinking of all the things she'd leave behind.
Her friends, her family, her life.
But then it was this huge burden falling heavy on her soul.
She couldn't keep it any longer.
Her back was aching.
It had been too long putting her back against it.
So long that her spine had started to curve and lose its shape, her posture was damaged and the only way to stand straight and tall again was to take that leap.
Of faith?
Faith or infidelity, it doesn't matter how you call it, because in the end she'd have to take it.
The rope that was holding her chained to this life was tight
and she could feel its hair pricking her neck, like a choking noose.
A leap.
How high would she need to climb in order to fly?
Would one storey or two be enough?
Again, sometimes it's not how high you need to climb, but how far you're willing to go.
And this time she wanted to go as far as possible.
She did it.
She's gone.
Free
and floating around in circles,
orbiting around herself.
Just like she's been doing her whole life,
orbiting people, situations, mistakes.
Her body now is a luminous pillar travelling in worlds no man has ever been,
but at the same time she is still here.
At the very same moment you see her running around herself, like a dog chasing its tail,
she is also somewhere else, glowing silver shimmers of happiness.
Freedom.

In the morning they found her hanging from her bedroom chandelier.
A few shards of broken glass were tangled in her dark brown hair.
Her pale arms stuck next to her stiff body
and her feet as white as snow.
The funny thing is she was still going round in circles like a compass writing perfect spheres.
Orbits of planets she was now free to visit
out there
in the cold space,
a space as cold as her lifeless body.
