# 245 - Swimming Half Dollar

Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Half Dollar series, we will present you today the 1996-S "Swimming" graded by PCGS PR70 DCAM.

All coins of this series weight 11.34g with 91.67% copper and 8.33% nickel. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.

They will be presented in the order they were minted.

This coin was part of ambitious coin program issued for the XXVI Olympiad Summer Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The obverse of the coin features a swimmer and it was designed by William Krawczewicz.

The reverse features the Olympic Flame, Olympics logo, and “100” arranged in the form of a torch. The year marked the 100th anniversary of the first modern Olympic Games.

A total of 114,315 coins were minted in San Francisco. The issue price was U$12.50. The actual price is around U$265.00 in this grade.

A well designed American swimmer, with all the ripples in the water.

I think it was based on a photo, but I am not sure about it.
