Have you tried traditional East Asian food?

in #teamgood6 years ago (edited)

This time I would like to share with you the experience I had during my trip to Shenzhen, China with a traditional dish called "HotPot".

travel & eating

At least for me, trying different kinds of food that I normally would not get home, is something that I like. While I don't have to try absolutely everything just for the sake of it, I avoid fast food (and other kind "escapes" :) ) while I am travelling and therefore eat as often as possible what and where the locals eat.

hotpot

According to wikipedia hotpot is:

Hot pot is a Chinese cooking method, prepared with a simmering pot of soup stock at the dining table, containing a variety of East Asian foodstuffs and ingredients. While the hot pot is kept simmering, ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table. Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leaf vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, tofu, and seafood. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce.

my experience

I had it for dinner but my mistake was having too much for lunch couple hours before, because this is very substancial food and for that you need to be hungry! It was tasty though because it is freshly prepared (basically by yourself :) ) by adding the ingredients into the "hotpot" and you can choose what ingredients you would like to have and which not. The best part, I was having dinner with locals who picked a very good restaurant in Shenzhen.

If you are by your own, would recommend always checking Internet reviews such as www.tripadvisor.com, so you can be sure of having a plesant food experience!

I live in the San Francisco bay area and there are several hotpot restaurants around. I would rather try one in Shenzhen but I think I will get a recommendation on one of the local ones and try it out.

Hi @steven-patrick! In terms of diversity San Francisco has more option than Northern Germany, I would say. This cuisine was very exotic to me, so my recommendation is really to go to a good restaurant making sure you are not disappointed! Have a great day!
