How to be Responsible Whales and Dolphins

in #steemit8 years ago

If you are a whale or a dolphin, you carry big responsibility on your end in terms on making this Steemit social network a better place. You single vote might make a post trending. Other people will just follow you to up vote the posts.

So, here is a simple guidelines on how to be a responsible whale or a dolphin:-

1. Don't up vote because the title is nice or the photo is attractive.
- Read, understand and analyse if this post really worth your up vote.

2. Don't up vote (yet) if the topic or article is beyond your level of understanding.
- If you like the post but do not really understand the technical aspect, bookmark the post first. Wait for other people who have right knowledge and read their comments. Or ask your friends who have the right knowledge of understanding the topic before you decide if you want to up vote.

3. Use your Common sense or Intuition before up vote
- Before you up vote, use you basic intuition to determine if whatever that is promised inside the post is real, too good to be true or with the intention of deceiving/misleading other steemians.

Back Story

Last night when I was surfing SteemIt homepage and I am attracted to this particular post: First Native iOS App Released (Approved by Apple) because I am an iOS Developer myself. I saw the post trending and was earning close to $28k and I thought the iOS app must be really good and I can download the app from the Apple Appstore and use it on my phone.

But the next thing I found out is ridiculous. The app is NOT approved by Apple and NOT released on the App store yet. Not only that, I can not even run the project that has been uploaded to Github.

Andy say to to all his friends: Hey everyone, my SteemIt iOS app has been approved by Apple and Released!

Friend 1: Really? I can download from App store now?

Andy: No. You can not download from App Store yet.

Friend 2: But you said that it has been approved and released.

Andy: Yes, it has been approved and released on TestFlight. You can download the app from there.

Friend 3: =.=" What is Test Flight?

The Real definition of TestFlight quote from Apple Website itself:-

TestFlight Beta Testing makes it easy to invite users to test your iOS, watchOS, and tvOS apps before you release them on the App Store.

So, technically the app that you download from TestFlight but not yet available on the App Store is an app that has NOT yet been approved by the real human reviewer and has NOT yet been released.

No iOS Developer will say that his app has been approved by Apple and released but the app is NOT yet on the Apple App store. It is just as simple as that.

If he says otherwise, he has the intention to deceive/mislead others.

I have exposed his lie in this post https://steemit.com/steemit/@rixky/riensen-s-ios-app-approved-by-apple-is-a-lie-and-misleading before I went to sleep soundly last night because I think I did a good job by helping this steemit community to become a better place.

But.... he tried to de-credit me by accusing me back on this post: https://steemit.com/steem/@riensen/why-4-baseless-accusation-that-were-made-against-my-ios-app-still-got-1kusd

Wait! Wait! Did my post made over $1k last night? I didn't know that. The last time I check before I went to sleep was about $0.45. The next morning when I checked, it was $0. =.=" What happened?

I honestly don't really care of I can make money off that post. As I still do not really understand how the entire system works yet. F that! F that 1k! I don't want to make money that way.

I would prefer to create real content that can provide real values to others on Steemit rather than making money via accusing/misleading others.

Now, I am asking myself: Did I do anything wrong? NO.

Good. I am going to sleep soundly again tonight. ;) Night.

Sort:

One must be a whale or at least a dolphin to provide this kind of advices.

You are a really annoying troll
You go and discredit a developer with baseless claims , and then you go on to say how you are the good guy and prefer to avoid misleading content

By posting a very misleading and manipulative post of your own

Im a developer myself and im tired of people that instead of creating want to tear down other people projects over small things

I would also like to call your attention to the facts

Before your external developers can test your app, you have to submit your app to be reviewed by Apple, just as you would with a normal App Store submission. These reviews tend to go faster than normal app reviews (although don’t count on it), and once it’s approved you can let external developers test your app. Internal testers, on the other hand, are instantaneously able to test new builds.

So to be widely availible to testers an app is indeed tested by a human in a non automated manner
